Week of October 21, 2013

English Language Arts

Miss Warnke: We will be working on using context clues to help aid in comprehension. We are also starting our personal narrative and working on using descriptive writing to paint a better picture. Students should continue reading at home each night.


Mrs. Allen: This week we are working on comparing/contrasting on Teenbiz3000. We are also comparing and contrasting The Cay book, CD, and movie. Students have a take home assessment that is due on Thursday. Guided Reading groups also started this week. In writing we are working on adding descriptive language to our personal narratives.


Ms. Naze: We are continuing discussing Number the Stars in groups. Students are revising their personal narratives adding imagery, dialogue, and other devices. Their personal narratives will be due on Wed. Students need to finish two lessons in TeenBiz.



Math

Math 4: This week we’ll be working with adding and subtracting fractions along with reviewing decimal operations.

Math 7, 8: This week in math we will review area of polygons and complex figures. Our Unit 2 Test is Thursday.

Science

This week we are finishing up vertebrates. Students will have work time for their projects on Wednesday and Friday. The Animal Kingdom Project is due on October 30th!!!! Please ask your student about their progress. Here is the link to the directions:

Social Studies

We are learning the story of the Wild West. We will be putting together an investigation on the characters of the Wild West to have a ghost town. Students will need to use the clues to figure out who the student is acting out.


Students need to also be studying the the states. There will be a states quiz at the end of the month.

We have Parent/Teacher/Student conferences coming up this month. Because we are a three person house, you will sign up with your child's English Language Arts teacher. We will have information to share from all the teachers in the Franklin House at the conference. You will find the information and link on Lineville's Home page.
