SL Interfaith Food Pantry Donation

4th Grade students from Miss Dalton's room made bracelets and sold them for a school-wide fundraiser to benefit the food pantry. The activity spread into an after school activity with Miss Dalton and Mrs. Parsons. The 4th grade raised $300 for the food pantry!! Pictured is Miss Dalton's class with Mrs. Anne Cooney from the food pantry.

Way to go!

Farm to School

While the gardens and greenhouse are under snow cover, Farm to School connections are still growing. Last month students in Mrs. Guglielmi’s class led the way in growing pea shoots, and soon these tasty greens will be sprouting up in more classrooms.

Next month we’ll be celebrating beets as the Harvest of the Month. Harvest of the Month highlights locally grown products available from farms now. Consider adding them to your menu at home in February. Beet roots can be eaten raw or cooked: grate them for a fresh salad, or roast with olive oil and your choice of herbs. Or eat them with a little sweet and try making beet brownies!

News from the Library Media Center

A Storybook Walk from the CEF Library System is on loan to Petrova Library through the month of February. It focuses on the message of inclusivity from the book Everybody Can Dance by Kara Navolio. Please come experience some movement through dance during Petrova’s Saturday, February 1st Carnival from 11-2. It also will be on display during our Multicultural Night on February 20th.

The CEF Library System also has E-Magazines available for students and adults. You will need your Saranac Lake Free Library card barcode (14-digit number on your library card) to access the magazines. IF you don’t have a card please stop into the library or contact Mrs. Salamy, she can send a SLFL application form home with your student. https://cefls.org/library-patrons/downloads/e-magazines/

Now you can read popular magazines on a variety of topics on your tablet, Kindle Fire or computer! Our libraries subscribe to over 30 digital magazines, including Consumer Reports, Time, Newsweek, HGTV, The Atlantic, Prevention, Real Simple, Quilter’s World, and more.
