Hello WES families,
Happy Veterans Day!
This afternoon we came together as a school to honor the service members of our families and friends. Thank you to our students, Mrs. Harris, Mrs. Elban, Mrs. French, Mrs. Winslow, and all of the staff for their dedication and hard work to prepare the special event for today. ALICE Enhanced Lockdown Drill - 11/16/22
We are all committed to the safety of all the students in Council Rock and Wrightstown Elementary. We continually work with local police to learn and implement best practices in school safety and security. Council Rock has adopted a set of federally endorsed protocols for an intruder on campus situation, known as ALICE. The acronym stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. All Council Rock staff and administrators have been trained in the ALICE protocols. One difference between our past "traditional lockdown" and "enhanced lockdown" is our classroom doors will be barricaded. This will look different depending on the grade level and the age of the children.
We are conducting an Enhanced Lockdown Drill Wednesday morning, November 16th. This enhanced lockdown drill will be no different than drills conducted in the past. Specifically, WES will use the all call intercom to signal the drill. All students will lockdown in their classrooms with their classroom teacher. We will use the intercom to end the drill. Newtown Township Police and/or CRSD Security personnel may be on site.
It’s always a good idea to review this information with your children prior to the drill. The attached social story is a resource parents can use to help children understand how we are approaching our added safety measures. The social story helps put these procedures in "kid friendly" terms! All teachers shared this story and reviewed it with students.

Literacy Corner with Mrs. Etgen
Do you think that Wrightstown can read 1900 books? That does sound like a lot BUT if we work together as a team, as a reading machine …WE CAN do it!!
This year Wrightstown is taking part in the Rally to Read challenge. This challenge is for each classroom to read 100 books - that counts books that are being read in the classroom, as well at home. Each classroom will mark their own books read as a whole to reach the goal of one hundred. Who knows . . . maybe we will read even more!
The goal of this project is simply to encourage our students to read. Please join us by encouraging them to read at home as well. If you would like to check out some reading resources for this activity, you can check out this site for some more information and resources.

WES Gives Back
Brighten the Holidays for a Child!
Would you help us put a smile on a child’s face this holiday season by donating an Amazon gift card or checking out our Amazon Wish List for the children living at Pediatric Specialty Care (PSC)? https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/38NTJ1OGYOC9W?ref_=wl_share
For the past 5 years, the GigiProject.org (a local nonprofit) has distributed toys/supplies WES students/staff have donated and they have brought so much joy and comfort to children spending the holidays at PSC. Your donations will directly benefit a medically fragile child (75% who are without parental support). Donations are due by Dec. 5th but we continue to hear supplies are limited so buy early!
Steps: 1) Purchase an Amazon gift card or Wish List item 2) Bring donation into WES 3) Gigi Project will use Amazon gift cards to purchase gifts that aren’t purchased 4) Student Council to wrap gifts 5) Gigi Project will bring wrapped gifts to PSC
Thank you in advance for giving these children a memorable holiday!

Student Council News
Student Council Corner
Student Council is off to a remarkable start! Socktober was a huge success. The students worked hard creating posters to hang around our school to promote this wonderful cause. The school worked together to collect over 280 pairs of socks, which will be donated to the Bucks County Homeless Shelter in Levittown, PA. Way to go Wrightstown! Thank you for your continued support.
Our Student Council Representatives are working hard to make it a successful year. We are currently planning some exciting Wrightstown Spirit Days, events and fundraisers for the 2022-2023 school year. The next Spirit Day will be held on Friday, November 18th. Please “Dress Like a Decade” from the 1950's to 2000’s. We can’t wait to see your spirit!

Free Breakfast Program
A message went out from the school district this week with information about the free breakfast program. Council Rock will begin offering free breakfast to all enrolled students at the elementary and middle school levels starting Monday, October 3rd through the end of the 2022-2023 school year.
What you need to know:
- No sign-up is required.
- Daily breakfast menus will be available on our menus website.
- Students enter their lunch ID number and get breakfast in the cafeteria upon arrival at school.
- Breakfast will be pre-bagged and have an optional milk and fruit selection.
The protocol for WES will be that children may pick up the bagged breakfast in the cafeteria upon arrival to school on their way to their homeroom. Students will use their lunch ID when picking up the breakfast, and then they will eat in their homeroom. Issues may arise with disruptions to our morning classroom routines or creating excessive messes in classes. We will address these needs as we begin the program, and, if needed, we will make changes as to where the students will eat their breakfast. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have questions.
