Role of UNMIS Human Rights:
- Monitor and provide human rights training to the police, prosecution and judicial authorities, which are responsible for ensuring accountability for human rights abuses at the local and national level.
- Visit and monitor places of detention to follow up on specific cases, with a focus on the legality of detentions and ill-treatment and/or torture of detained persons.
- Support government and civil society in reporting to the oversight bodies of human rights treaties signed and ratified by sudan.
- Contribute to the strengthening of human rights and the rule of law.
