Reading Fair 2023
Our 9th Annual Reading Fair is called, "Adventure Awaits"! It will be held on Tuesday, February 7th. We have had a record year for our students to sign-up and participate in the Reading Fair! How great is that?!
Award Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 8th at the start of the school day. We will take pictures and share it out on Dojo & Facebook for all our Families to see.
Reading Fair Open House | Feb. 7th
We will be having a short Open House for parents to come view their child's Reading Fair display and others, as well. Please view the schedule for when your grade-level's time is:
Kindergarten-1st Grade: 5:00-5:30 pm
2nd-3rd Grade: 5:45-6:15 pm
*Siblings in multiple grade-levels? Pick the time that works best for your schedule.*
IREAD-3 Testing
Our Third Graders will be administered the IREAD-3 Assessment between March 6th-March 17th.
During this Testing Window, it's important to:
- Be in attendance
- Eat a good breakfast
- Get a good night's sleep
- Keep it positive to avoid test anxiety. Be Proud! It's time to SHOW WHAT YOU KNOW!
Calling In Absences
If your child is sick and will be absent, please call in each day that they are absent to let Mrs. Ward, our Nurse, or the Office know. Thank you!!!
Fall in Love With Reading
During the month of February, we are challenging our students at WES, DES, and KVIS to Fall in Love With Reading! Each time one of our students reads an entire book, they will earn a heart during their library special. They will write their name and the the title of the book they read. We will then display all of the hearts in our library. WES has a goal to read 1,000 books by the end of the month of February. If we reach our goal, we will earn a GAME DAY during their library special time in the first full week of March. Let's get to reading, WES!

Our 2022-2023 Yearbooks are on sale right now!
Our yearbook costs $13.50 and you need to get your order and payment in by March 17th.

Kindergarten Pre-Registration
Do you or someone you know have an Incoming Kindergartener for the 2023-2024 School Year?! You (or They) can pre-register during the month of
March!
Stop by our WES School Office to get your packet and complete the necessary paperwork!
KV's Developmental Preschool Information
Kankakee Valley Developmental Preschool Peer Applications for the 2023-2024 school year will be available in the main office of DeMotte Elementary, Wheatfield Elementary and Kankakee Valley High School on February 1, 2023. Completed Applications will need to be returned to the main office at Kankakee Valley High School on or before Tuesday, February 28, 2023. Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up
Please remember these three tips when you are picking up and dropping off in our Parent Pick-Up/Drop-Off Line:
1.) All students need to enter your vehicle from the passenger side.
2.) Please stay in your vehicle. If your child needs assistance with loading and fastening their seatbelts, please pull into a parking space and walk to the sidewalk so we can get your child to you.
3.) When our doors open in the morning, please be ready to have your child exit your vehicle and walk into school, once you are parked along the curb.
These 3 tips help make our drop-off and pick-up lines run quick and efficient. This is key to everyone's safety with our school's proximity to the highway! Thank you so much!
2nd Grade Music Program
MARK YOUR CALENDARS! Our 2nd Grade Music Program is on Tuesday, March 21st at 5:30 pm. We can't wait to showcase our 2nd grade's great musical talents!
Dismissal Info.
REMINDER: Please call the office if you need to make a change for your child's regular dismissal transportation. For example: You will be picking your child up rather than riding the bus home. Please DO NOT message your child's teacher on Class Dojo. We want to make sure the message gets to your child and your child's teacher. Please call in at 219-956-3221. Please call in before 1:00 pm. Thank you!
ILEARN Assessment
Later this semester, our aWESome Third Graders will get another chance to SHOW WHAT THEY KNOW on the Indiana ILEARN Assessment.
This assessment will be administered from April 17th-May 12th.
If you have any questions about IREAD-3 or ILEARN, please contact your child's third grade teacher.
