Hansen Weekly Update
April 24, 2020
Hello Hansen Students and Families!
As I'm sure you know, earlier this week, the Governor announced Massachusetts schools will remain closed for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year. As the state data shows this to be the correct decision in the name of safety and well-being, the announcement was not totally unexpected. Yet I am sure it still left you and your children with many emotions, as it did for me. Whether you are currently experiencing sadness, anger, confusion, or denial, it is okay...you are not experiencing this alone. I have felt these and many other emotions over the past days and weeks.
And...
I am hopeful.
During the past several weeks of remote experiences, I have seen firsthand the care and empathy that the Hansen community has for each other. I have seen teachers and staff work tirelessly to provide positive academic and social moments for students, even when not physically present with one another. I have seen parents and guardians take on the role of 'teacher from home' while still managing their own work and family lives. And I have seen students engaged in some wonderful remote opportunities, enjoying the outdoors and unexpected bonus time at home with family.
Not all days are easy. In fact, many seem hard. Yet, I remain hopeful that this experience has and will continue to offer some wonderful perspective that will bond us, deepen our appreciation for the little things and for each other, and in the long run will make our community even stronger.
So, while it is sad that we will not return to the building for this current school year, stay hopeful. Brighter days are ahead, and we are a strong community!
