Job Title: Registered Environmental Health Specialist

Job Description: (2) Full Time Food Safety and Sanitary Inspectors are needed. They are important in preventing illnesses and diseases by making sure proper sanitary procedures are followed. Inspectors will travel throughout New York City to make sure restaurants, hotels, schools, camps, food carts, pools, hospitals, etc. are in compliance with current regulations being enforced by the NYC Department of Health. Furthermore, the work of an inspector will include educating on laws that impact the public and environment's well being and health such as the Smoke Free Air Act, trans fats in food facilities, calorie information to prevent and reduce diseases, investigating complaints, and of course to assess restaurant conditions to allow them to post letter grades on their performance. Travel will be necessary throughout NYC in all boroughs using public transportation.

Salary Range: starting salary $38,000-$60,000 on level of experience. Salary increase after two years of employment and the ability to advance in the field. Vacation of two weeks plus sick and personal days.

Registered Environmental Health Specialist Qualifications

A minimum of a bachelors degree in public health or a related science from an accredited college with at least 32 semester credits in biology and/or physical sciences and a minimum of one year of training working in a regulatory field. Applicant must have already taken and passed state licensing exam with at least a 70%. Applicants will work directly with the public and must have strong communication skills.
