A New Year
2021-2022
Great Things to Come
As always, our students are at the heart of every decision we make, and we want the best for them! As you read through this newsletter, you will learn about several new procedures for our campus as well as new programs that will help our students be the best students and citizens they can be!
In our planning, we have also tried to come up with ways for you, as parents, to be more involved as well. We know that, without you, we could not provide the best for our students. As you read through, be sure to take the opportunity to sign up to be a parent volunteer so that you can help us in serving our students as well as making decisions for our campus. Be sure to save the dates for any events that come up because we want you to be a part of our campus!
Have a wonderful rest of the summer and we look forward to seeing you all soon!

New Procedures for Dismissal for KMS Walkers
Dear Parents of KMS Students:
As we are looking to plan for the new school year, our first thoughts are continuously for the safety of each student on our campus. Thus, we have spent much time contemplating the best way to dismiss these students in an orderly and safe manner at the end of each school day.
We have developed a new procedure for our car riders which allows students to be picked up in less than 30 minutes at the end of the school day by facilitating the use of double lanes. However, we have continued concern that many students continue to walk to the back of the school to get in parent cars that are on the street or parked at different locations throughout the neighborhoods behind our school. This practice continues to be of concern to us because it poses safety issues for our students as well as backs up traffic and makes for an unsafe driving experience.
To ensure that all KMS students remain safe, we are asking that only students who live in neighborhoods adjacent to KMS walk home. In order to facilitate this new procedure, we are asking that you provide the address which your child will be walking to and it must match the address that is on the proof of residence for your student’s attendance at our school.
Please fill out the KMS Walker Request Form (click on the link below) with the correct information and we will let you know if your child is able to be a walker for the 2021-2022 school year by using the address that you provide for verification.
All other students who are not riding the bus should be picked up at the front of the school at the end of the school day.
Thank you for your cooperation and your help in keeping our students safe!
Sincerely,
Jennifer Gholson
KMS Principal

Students With Assignments Missing
In an effort to ensure that all students are successfully completing and turning in work at KMS, students will stay after school to complete any missing assignments for each subject. This time will be provided for each subject and will take place after school from 3:30 - 4:30 each afternoon - Monday - Thursday. Teachers will place students on the SWAM list by Thursday afternoon each week and fill out a SWAM form for each student. This form will be sent home with the student so that you, as the parent, will be aware of the dates your child will need to stay after school. This will allow time to make plans for pick-up on the days your child needs to stay. You will be responsible for your child’s transportation home on these days. The subject rotation schedule is below.
Monday - Social Studies
Tuesday - ELA
Wednesday - Math
Thursday - Science
Details to know...
*All students who attend after school practices will need to attend SWAM before going to practice if they have received a SWAM form.
*If students fail to attend SWAM, they will be assigned to detention on Friday after school and each teacher is expected to provide the detention supervisor with the work that students will need.
*If students do not show up for detention, this will result in a referral. Principals will then contact parents, and students will not be allowed to attend pep rallies, dances, etc. until all zeros are turned in.
Following the procedure from last year, there will be no lunch deliveries at KMS for the 2021-2022 school year
