Kia Ora - Be Well
From Our Principal
Kia ora whānau and our community,
Our vision is to Empower All People to be Healthy Life Long Learners.
This week it has been a delight to see how learning is taking place across our school in such a rich variety of ways, as you’ll see in this newsletter.
From bike and scooter skills, a feast of the Arts in Kauri (thank you NPBHS), The House of Science learning kits which included ‘Grasshopper Tasting’, math and technology combined to explore design and measurement with catapults, basketball training and of course our school wide focus on the Science of Reading which also connects to our writing programmes, learning is most certainly everywhere. Our juniors ‘playful learning’ is a joy to see and the learning (personally, socially and curriculum wise) is strong.
Our adults have also been learning, Te Reo Maori, Incredible Years programmes, The Science of Reading observations and sharing of our mahi, 3 of our leaders have been to a leadership workshop and for myself, Principalship and Strategic planning.
Learning is also closely related to our Wellbeing - we feel good when we learn!
A wellbeing tip this week is a focus on breathing - try this to support your tamariki when emotions are starting to run a bit high and there’s a call for calm - this technique works well for us adults too! The advice we have received in our training is to co-regulate with your child, breath alongside and model.
next week is maori language week
Next week we will share what we will be learning at school. Email the office if you have been doing anything at home that you would like to share.
This year we are
Commemorating the 50th anniversary of te Petihana Reo Māori
The 14th of September marks the 50th anniversary of the Māori Language Petition being presented to parliament, an event that led to many of the kaupapa we have today, including Te Wiki o te Reo Māori.
How could you celebrate this at home?
How could you whakarongo/listen to Māori?
How could you korero/speak to Māori?
How could you ako/learn some more Māori? There are awesome Facebook and Instagram accounts that can help you.
Tākaro/play is a great way to use Māori. Can you play a card game or board game in Te Reo. A local group sell card games called Tahi and now Toru.
When you pānui/read to your children this week maybe read a book in Te Reo or with a Māori perspective.
Listen to some waiata. There are some amazing playlists called Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori and Waiata anthems.

visit from npbhs
This is the third year they have come along and each year has proven to be very successful and enjoyed by all. Students got to choose from music, dance or drama. Dance was a popular choice and by the end of the sessions, watching the choreographed dance was a great way to finish up the day. All groups had a fabulous time and got to experience what it takes to get prepared for acting and learn some cool sounding tunes through music. Thanks to Mrs Wigley for organising a great experience.
Drama groups learning their lines before auditions, Blythe rocking out on the drum kit & Vinnie learning a few keys of an Elton John song.
