ABERDEEN RACING ACADEMY
NEWSLETTER - July 2017 - No 3
Introduction
Our third ARA newsletter comes to you live from Long Beach, California. Alamitos Bay Yacht Club will be the teams base for the next two weeks. The weather has produced perfect sailing conditions with brilliant blue sky and wind ranging from 8 knots in the early afternoon to about 15 knots later on in the day. The team has recovered from jet lag, helped largely by throwing themselves straight into training, familiarising themselves with the conditions and race course areas.
Please remember to check our Facebook page for regular updates on our teams progress.

29er Worlds
The racing areas are not as picturesque as one would first envisage, with plenty of tankers and oil rigs spoiling the setting. The main shipping port of Los Angeles is to the north of the club, although ABYC is beautifully set on the edge of Alamitos Bay. Some of the team have spotted dolphins swimming in close proximity. There has also been mention of baby Great White Sharks in the area - hopefully a huge incentive for the teams to stay in their boats! Wind conditions have varied, early afternoon wind speeds are averaging 6 - 8 knots, at about 3.00 pm the sea breeze kicks in and the wind picks up to between 11 - 15 knots.
The US Nationals begin on Wednesday 26th July. Measurement for the Worlds will start on Saturday 29th July with racing commencing on Monday 31st July. Results can be found on the 29er Worlds Website, please keep checking the Academy Facebook Page for regular updates.
