Week Ahead @Southview

September 13th, 2021

Big picture
Thank you to our staff, students and families for a wonderful first week of school! We know that this success is in large part to how families worked to prepare their kids in returning to the building. Southview kids did an amazing job with learning and remembering routines to do our part in keeping our school, and community, healthy and safe. We will continue to update families with these routines and they alter.

School Organization and Enrolment

Our school organization of 25 classes was based on projected enrolment numbers from June and is subject to change depending on our actual number of students in September. Typically, this results in some changes to our school organization that can impact staffing and classroom placements. We will keep you informed of any possible changes in school organization from that may be necessary. Letters for those students who are impacted will be sent home this week. New class placements will begin September 20th. This is all in an effort to keep class sizes smaller.

Southview Drop Off/Pick Up

Thanks to everyone for your patience and for obeying our signage so that traffic flow at drop off and pick up runs smoothly. Please pull all the way through our designated drop off zone. This is one way traffic. We remind you that the side of the road is a no parking zone and bylaw enforcement may be present and will ticket. We encourage you to use your Triboard transportation to help alleviate traffic.

At the end of the day, students on the first floor (1-4) who are getting picked up will be lined up in the front fence area. Students on the second floor (Hall4-8) will also be in this area waiting at the fence to the school yard for pick up.

**If you must come to the school, please respect physical distancing at all times**

Police presence will be circulating around our school area and the crosswalk to ensure safe practices by all motor vehicles.

The Golf Course is a polling station and traffic will be extremely busy on voting days. Please plan for delay and follow traffic signs. Again, you may like to consider Triboard transportation.

What if My Child is Late or Needs to Leave Early?

If your child is late for school, please come to the front door and ring the bell to speak with a staff member. Parents will need to wait outside, physically distanced from other families, until staff arrive to sign your child in and welcome them inside school. We will make sure that young students get to their classrooms safely.

In order to limit the number of parents on school property, we ask that students leave early only if it's absolutely necessary, e.g., for an appointment. If you are picking your child up early, please come to front door and ring the bell to speak with a staff member. We will bring your child to the door to meet you. If you arrive early to pick up your child, we ask that you wait until dismissal at 3:35 pm in order that we may stick to our safe dismissal routines as much as possible.

How Can I Get Information From the School?

LDSB schools and school board use School Messenger to send key messages, alerts, and general communication to families. Southview uses this platform and will continue to use our Week Ahead @Southview to provide updates to families. These newsletters are where we will share school-specific information and highlights of student work and events in the building. This newsletter is sent out via School Messenger and on our school Twitter account, website and Parent Council Facebook group.

SchoolMessenger App: Download the SchoolMessenger App to stay connected. Use your mobile device to download and install the free SchoolMessenger blue app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store, the SchoolMessenger website portal, or from within the LDSB mobile app. *New families will be able to create their account after the first day of attendance.

The first time you use the app, you must select Sign Up to create your account. Please ensure you use the same email address your student’s school has on file. If you do not use that same email address, you will not be able to create an account.

Please continue to check the LDSB website for updated information on the Director's messages, Frequently asked Questions, Family Reference Guide, Wellness Resources & Supports, Remote Learning info, Public Health info and Ministry of Education information. This area is updated regularly as information becomes available or changes.
