Preschool Parent Newsletter
October 2023
We are building a strong foundation for the future!
Our school expectations are simple. Help us by talking about them at home too!
- We are kind
- We are safe
- We work together
Thank you for partnering with us to help your child learn so much this year!
We are learning more about Building a Community
Students are beginning to understand our schedules and look forward to the variety of activities they can do each day. They have full class circle time, time to play with table toys, time for snacks and lunch, and time to choose what classroom center and outdoor play activities interest them the most.
At the ELC, we are getting to know our students and they are getting to learn more about what it is like to go to school. We are working on routines and rules and learning about taking turns and following through on teacher directions.
At both Pioneer and ELC, we are having a lot of fun exploring the materials and meeting new friends! We have been learning all about how to stay safe at school, on the bus, on the playground, and more!
We are getting to know our friends and their names through a variety of games, such as Who Took the Cookie from the Cookie Jar and creating class books like Brown Bear, Brown Bear Who Do You See? Next, we will be learning how to be kind and how to work together.
Read with your child 10 minutes every night!
We send ARC and library books home in the backpack for you to use. We also encourage you to join the West Chicago Library for additional books in your home.
As you read to your child, ask them questions about the pictures and stories and celebrate together all they are learning!

PARENT LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY
Food Procurement Committee
District 33 understands that a healthy school nutrition environment provides students with nutritious and appealing foods and beverages, consistent and accurate messages about good nutrition, and ways to learn about and practice healthy eating throughout the time children spend on school grounds—including before- and after school.
The D33 Food Procurement Committee is a representative group of district staff, administration, parents, and students who will:
- examine the current Federal & State School Food Standards,
- evaluate the conditions of D33 kitchens and what limitations may exist,
- develop a method to receive input from all stakeholders,
- use that input to create the evaluation tool for bidding,
- prepare for the bid,
- evaluate the bid results.
The committee will make a recommendation to the Board for approval of a food service contract for the school year 2024-25.
