From the Principal's Desk....
I can’t believe we are already at the holiday season, and half way through the school year! We will have some fun events and activities to fill our calendar this month, so make sure that you mark your calendar and come in and join the festivities.
*Our classroom parties will be held on December 19th. We will send more information in grade level newsletters. Please contact your child’s classroom teacher with any questions.
*December 20th is the last day before Christmas Break, it is an early out at 1:10. Students will come back to school January 6th. Have a wonderful and safe holiday season!
First Grade Muscial
Our first grade music program is scheduled for this Thursday, December 5th, at 6:00 pm. Since the program will be located at the High School Performing Arts Center, we will be taking the students by bus to practice during the day at this location. We just wanted to inform you, as you have already signed a permission slip in the handbook during enrollment for in town field trips.
Please meet your classroom teacher at 5:45 in the lobby at the Moberly High School Performing Arts Center on December 3rd. Seating in the auditorium will not begin until 5:45. Please remember no food or drink is allowed in the auditorium.
Library News
This month in the STEM lab, we've been working with microscopes, circuit boards, and solar panels. Watch our Facebook page for more information about science, technology, engineering, and math!
Please help your children return library books on time. If you cannot find a book, please let us know. The replacement cost is often much lower than that listed on the overdue form.
Title News
The holiday season and winter break is a great time for family fun and togetherness. Research has shown that families that spend quality time with learning activities help create a stronger emotional bond and build better communication; which helps students do better academically! In the rush of the season, it is important to keep learning a priority. Take some time to plan and schedule some learning activities as a part of your holiday schedule. The following list can be a great starting point.
Writing Ideas:
Write letters / make cards to give to family and friends. These can be mailed or hand delivered.
Write thank you notes.
Write about their favorite holiday activity or memory. These stories can be kept with the decorations to pull out and enjoy for years to come.
Reading Ideas:
Read together holiday cards / letters.
Create a tub of books to be read each night. Books can be new or old favorites. They could be wrapped to create a surprise for the night and used as a count down.
Give a book as a gift to encorage young readers.
Have your child show off reading skills to relatives by sharing time spent reading to grandparents or other special loved ones. A video can be recorded and sent if unable to share in person.
Print out a children’s holiday craft. Read and follow directions together to make as gifts.
Other Learning Opportunities:
Have family board game nights.
Cook together by reading and following a receipe.
Encourage learning websites instead of video games. One resource to use is under the Moberly’s website, click on South Park tab, then pull down to SP library. The school library has a section of websites for kids that provides some student friendly websites. https://sites.google.com/site/southparklibrarysite/library-news/websites-for-kids-1
Family schedules can be busy, but remember one of the most important parts of the season is spending time with the people you love.

When considering school cancellations, the safety of all students in the district is the first consideration. School district personnel drive bus routes to check local conditions firsthand. District personnel then hold conversations with the bus transportation company to gain their perspective. Again, safety is always our top priority. We also consider whether conditions will be changing throughout the day.
In the event of a school cancellation, notice will be provided as soon as a decision is made. Local radio and television stations will be notified, and a notice will be posted on the school district’s web page, Facebook, and Twitter (@MoberlyDistrict). Notification will be sent via TextCaster Spartan Alerts as well.
Early Dismissal: An early dismissal will be used when conditions are expected to get worse throughout the day. This option will be used sparingly and avoided whenever possible. If early dismissal becomes necessary, the district will announce and post dismissal times. The standard early dismissal schedule will be used when possible.
Late Start: A late start option will also be used sparingly and in cases in which conditions are expected to improve fairly quickly in the morning. If late start is utilized, the district will announce the length of the delay. For example, if there will be a 2 hour late start, you would add 2 hours to the typical school start time. In the example of a 2 hour late start, if your child has a 7:30 bus stop time, the new bus stop time would be 9:30. The standard late start schedule will be used when possible.
Buses following Snow Routes: At times, buses will only be following snow routes. These routes can be found on the school website. The school website is www.moberly.k12.mo.us
