UMAC News- November 6
Dear Parents,
This week was filled with many opportunities for our students and teachers to “Get-Caught Reading”. We want to thank our PTO for the many activities that were planned to celebrate our love for reading! It was especially exciting and fun to wrap up our week with Aaron Reynolds sharing his expertise as an author. He certainly added great humor to help us as we continue to publish our great writing!
Please remember that tonight from 4-7:30 pm and Saturday morning from 9:00-12:00 the Scholastic Book fair is open. When we went to view the books on Thursday, we were amazed by the huge selection.
Have a great weekend,

Shared Reading:
While reading, Darnell Rock Reporting, our students examined characters and their arguments to identify the author’s purpose. The students had the opportunity to understand the challenges a character named Darnell faced as spoke up for what he believed in. As the story ended, our classroom discussion ended with an enlightening thought. Although he was disappointed that his proposal for a garden was not approved by the city council, he used this as a learning opportunity. I was proud of how my students understood the message that sometimes things don’t work out the way intended, but work out in another way.
