Who and What Is New for This Fall?
We are having a great time wrapping up the school year. Field trips, field days, presentations and graduations fill our calendar. We have also begun planning for the fall and want to make sure you know about some staffing and procedure changes ahead of us. 1. We wish all the best for some of our staff members who are leaving us. Holly Achenberg (2nd/3rd French), Flor Morales (3rd Spanish), Steve Johnson (4th Spanish), Daphney Wells (4th English) will be leaving us at the end of this year. Vicki Scheppegrell (our Literacy Coach) came out of retirement this spring to help us make the transition. Amanda Ramsey (1st Grade) did Mrs. Futrelle's long term leave so she could become our assistant principal. We have been blessed to have each of them with us and they have made such a positive impact on our children and school. Each of them is pursuing a fantastic opportunity for their growth and I am so proud of them for taking a leap to new and challenging work. Ladies and Gentleman, hear all of our applause for your effort with us. We will miss you. 2. We are excited about new staff members joining us. Sara Brenton (1st Grade English) is changing careers from the news industry to teaching. She is from Maryland and has a great background in early childhood education and cultural studies. Laura St. Aime (2nd/3rd Grade French) has previously taught in the United States (in Utah). She is a native of Martinique and has been teaching there the past few years. Aida Garcia (3rd Grade Spanish) has also taught in the United States previously. She is from Barcelona, Spain and has taught English there. Susan Dixon will be our new Literacy Coach this fall. Susan has been an ESOL teacher for us and has lots of experience in many different grade levels. (We are still hiring for our two fourth grade positions.) 3. We will mix up our Spanish students from Ebinport and Richmond Drive. It will be our goal to have half of the children in first through fifth grade Spanish teams from each elementary school. Our students will benefit from making new friends. This year, we have emphasized as a district "One Team, One Mission, One Rock Hill." Now that we have completed our transition, we want to continue to become "One Cherry Park." We will seek ways that we can meaningfully and practically integrate our French and Spanish students as well. With that in mind, feel free to let our administrative team know anything you want us to know about your child as we make placement decisions for the fall. (Please do not request teachers.) You can click on the button below to provide that information. That should be done by the last day of school, Wednesday June 5. As we move through this summer, we will keep you updated on other changes as we reflect and reset for the fall. I feel like I have been at Cherry Park for years. I cannot thank you enough for all you have done to help us transition so well. I look forward to all that is ahead.

Field Day Volunteer Signups (See Below)
On this Friday, May 31, we will have our Third, Fourth and Fifth Grade Field Day and it will be all day. We will have it across the street in Cherry Park Fields 1, 2 and 3. You can click on the Field Day Volunteer button(s) below to sign up to volunteer. We wanted to let you know about these days so you can plan for them. We will need volunteers to help it be a fun day for our kids. If you want to volunteer, you must have a current background screening completed and you can go here to submit that if needed: https://www.rock-hill.k12.sc.us/Page/3391 We realize all three schools did Field Day differently. To best address our safety and security concerns, we want to make sure you know that we will not be able to allow visitors to walk up and visit at Field Day. We will not have any way to check ID’s across the street. All adults at Field Day will be prescreened and will wear bracelets indicating they are staff or volunteers. As always, we welcome parents to visit with their child during lunch those days. Field Day is a day for our kids and we want them to be safe and secure while having fun.
