How big is the Opera House?
So you know how big the opera house is? Well you wouldn't be reading this if you did. But you may read it if you did know how big it is... Anyways! "The opera house is 100 meters wide and created the plateau on top." It gave people the feeling of liberation from the life they were living to being in another world. The person who built the Sydney Opera House was Jørn Utzon. It took 16 years to build.
What's some history?
The history of the Sydney opera house goes back to 1956. The main reasons for building the opera house was for people to perform plays such as Shakespeare, and also to perform concerts. The NSW Government had announced a competition for people to submit entries for the archit design. The winner got to build the Sydney Opera House. There was no exact design they had to make, or cost, they were just allowed to go at it. The winner of the contest was Jørn Utzon. He won because his idea was bold and extraordinary.
What are some events that have happened here?
And finally some events that happened in the Sydney Opera House. After the house was built the NSW government wanted to stop paying Jørn Utzon. It made everybody mad and protest for the government to pay Utzon. But Utzon left Australia when the government decided to pay him again. During the 80's there was a net placed above the orchestra pit. A live chicken had walked across it during Boris Godunov's act and had landed on a cellist.
So what now?
So now that you know a lot more about the opera house, why not come and visit?
