Notre Dame Catholic Primary School
Foundations for Life Long Learning 6 February
Dear Parents and Staff
Welcome back to the new school year. From what I have heard from both staff and children they all had relaxing holidays and are very excited about the year ahead. It is a privilege to work in such a vibrant and positive community and I look forward to sharing many wonderful experiences with all of you.
The end of 2019 marked the completion of 10 years of operation as the amalgamated Notre Dame Catholic Primary School, incorporating the charisms and history of both Holy Name and Notre Dame Schools and their founding Orders of Sisters, the Mercys and the Presentations. Whilst the first year of the amalgamation operated on two campuses, the two schools were officially joined at the beginning of 2010, with all students and staff coming together on our current site in 2011. The Leadership Team has considered what would be an appropriate way to celebrate this momentous occasion. Of course, our day would commence with the celebration of a Thanksgiving Mass, but what next? Well, what could be better than combining water and physical activities? A monster water slide and obstacle course would be the obvious choice so, we have booked these for Friday 14 February so that each of the classes will have a 40 minute session during the day and, because we’re keeping the rides into the evening, children (and parents) may wish to keep the fun going during the P&F Night Market. A permission slip will be sent home to parents in the next couple of days. Please ensure that this is signed and returned so that your children may join in the fun on the day. The day will be free dress with the children needing to bring along their bathers and a towel.
FAREWELL
During the school holidays Mrs Kath Brisbane informed me that she had decided to not return to Notre Dame in 2020. Kath has been involved as a volunteer, Teacher and Education Assistant at our school for the past five years assisting many children to achieve their potential. Her dedication to those in her care has been second to none and she, and her quirky sense of humour, will be missed. We wish her much happiness for the journey ahead.

PARENT/TEACHER MEETINGS
It was great to see so many parents at the meetings with their children’s new teachers last evening. I trust that you gained a sense of the teachers’ philosophy and found the information to be useful in setting your child up for a successful year ahead. As most teachers would have stated, if you have concerns please let them know and, if you then don’t feel that your concerns have been adequately addressed, please feel free to contact me or any of the members of our Leadership Team.

Thank you to the parents who attended the presentation last evening by Nick Dabbs from Keyed Up Music. If you are interested in your child learning to play an instrument, please contact the teachers as below. Lessons are held on the school premises after school.

P&F NIGHT MARKET – 14 FEBRUARY
Don’t miss this great evening of fun, friendship and food as we commence the 2020 journey together. I hope to catch up with many of you on the evening, especially if you come to the canteen to purchase a sausage sizzle or one of our excellent hot beef rolls that have been prepared by the staff.
DADS’ & KIDS’ CAMPOUT
A reminder that this will be held on Friday 20 March. Information will be distributed to families in the next few days and will be available on our school’s Facebook page.
HEALTH CARE CARD
In accordance with the Catholic Education WA Ltd policy the school provides considerable assistance with payment of school fees. A reminder to all Health Care Card (HCC) holders that discount applies to the HCC holder only. This discount is applied to tuition fees, amenities and building levy charges. All other school fees are payable. HCC holders are requested to complete a form available at reception and present your current Health Care Card.
PHOTOGRAPH/VIDEO/NAME PERMISSION FORM
As part of the school’s publicity activities, situations may occasionally arise when the school, Catholic Education of WA (CEOWA) or local media will need to take photographs and or video footage of Notre Dame children for publication in newspapers, CEO documents, training videos and or the CEWA website. This also includes images taken during school performances, activities and sporting events. Permission forms have been distributed to each student yesterday and we ask that you sign and return them by Monday 10 February. Thank you to all the parents who have already sent the Permission forms.
