FBMS Updates and Information
- Yesterday, Superintendent Granatino shared the updated MPSD Expectations for Remote Learning with the community. As he stated, we will be starting live 'video chats' this week. This synchronous form of communication will involve students and the educator interacting together in real-time using Canvas and Google Meet. The live, video chats also allow students to view and hear the same information from the educator at the same time, despite their physical separation. While we add this synchronous form of communication to the weekly schedule, instructional lessons will continue to be presented and completed in an asynchronous fashion.
- Below please see the FBMS Remote Learning Schedule Reference Guide
- Added to this newsletter is updated information about FBMS grading for the rest of the school year
- We will be having virtual Parent Teacher Conferences on May 14 from 12:30-2:30. As usual, appointments will be scheduled via an online scheduling program. The conference appointment schedules will be launched this Friday afternoon.
- One last request for our 'top secret' project for this week - we would love all students to participate! Email them to fbmsleadership@gmail.com. Thank you!

UPDATED FBMS Remote Learning Schedule
As you know from Superintendent Granatino’s recent communication, we will be adding a weekly video chat to your child(ren)’s homeroom to allow staff and students some face-to-face interactions which we all are very excited about! We also understand some parents may not want their child to participate, so please be sure to communicate that to me or one of the building administrators. In order to help students and families know what is expected each week, we decided to give you a rough schedule. Updated FBMS Grading for 2019-20
May 3, 2020
Dear FBMS Students & Families,
I am writing today with several academic updates from the middle school and to share with you our overall grading plan for the remainder of the school year. We are working diligently to make certain that we lessen the impact of the pandemic on our students’ overall learning and academic transcript. The information below will be implemented at this time. Hopefully it will give clarity to our students regarding end of the year grades and academic transcripts as we complete our school year. Please note that this is a change from our previous academic update and allows us to comply with state mandates and address our students’ best interests. These grading practices may look very familiar to our families with children at Marshfield High School as they are designed to mirror similar practices.
Final Grade Information:
For final grades for the school year we will weigh our term grades as follows:
Trimester 1 – 45%, Trimester 2 – 45%, Trimester 3 – 10%
There are no final exams at FBMS this year for students
Trimester 3 Grades – Remote Learning
Trimester 3 began when we started our remote learning opportunities.
All remote learning activities have been assessed as credit/no credit, which starting this week teachers will start to put into Aspen regularly.
At the end of trimester 3, teachers will determine if a student earns one of the following grades as a final grade:
Credit with Distinction – The student meets the learning expectations
and excels in all capacities of remote learning
Credit - The student meets learning expectations
No Credit – The student did not meet the learning expectations
Trimester 3 grades will count as 10% of the student’s final grade.
For final grade conversion to numbers – Credit with Distinction = 100%, Credit = 85%, No Credit = 58%
Lastly, we want to stress the importance of our remote learning that is occurring at this time. Clearly, our means of delivering content and instruction has changed, but the relationship between teacher/student is present and able to grow. It is important that our students take part in their Trimester 3 learning opportunities.
Please stay safe and healthy. We will get through this - #FBMS_StrongerTogether.
Sincerely,
Maureen Kemmett
