Good Afternoon Mustangs!

We hope you were able to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend. Last week we welcomed back all Kindergarten, First, and Second grade students to 5 days a week of in school instruction. We are happy to report that everything went smoothly and our littlest Mustangs transitioned like champs! We are looking forward to having ALL of our Mustangs back for 5 days of in school instruction at the end of this month.


November and December Dates to Remember:


  • Wednesday, November 18 and Thursday, November 19: 1st Nine Weeks Report Cards go home


  • November 25 - November 27: No School - Thanksgiving Break



  • November 30: Third, Fourth, and Fifth grade students return for 5 days in school instruction

Morning Drop Off

In order to maintain safety for all of our students and staff during morning drop off, please check out these important reminders.


*Please do not cross the double lines. When you cross the double line, there is a risk of hitting a child you may not see or even another vehicle.

*Please move down to the next available spot. Do not stop in the curve, closest to the front door. This backs up traffic.

*Parents please do not get out of your car. If you need to help your child with their seat belt, book bag, sign something, mask, etc. please park in a parking spot to assist your child. This backs up traffic and/or causes people to want to cross the double line; which is a hazard.

Afternoon Pick Up


As more students are returning to school face to face, our traffic flow is increasing during afternoon dismissal. We are aware of the frustration that you may be feeling, and are currently working to modify our procedures to best meet the needs and safety of everyone involved. In the midst of these changes, there are some circumstances that currently remain the same. These are factors in determining our need for a single lane pickup.


These include:


· Students are dismissed from their classrooms (not the cafeteria as in the past).

· For safety measures, we are not using safety patrol to assist in opening car doors. We do not have the necessary supervision for students to wait across the street.

· All staff are on duty throughout the building, monitoring car, van, and bus riders

We are currently planning to have Officer Crawford assisting with directing traffic when it is safe for pick up drivers to pass parked vehicles. As well, we are looking to modify the number of pickup points from 8 to 6. We believe that these changes and accommodations will help to expedite the process. We ask for your patience as we make these adjustments.


What you can do to help:


· Have your orange card visible

· If possible, allow your child to access your vehicle from the curb side

· If your child needs assistance in securing safety restraints please pull into the parking lot or forward (well past the mailbox) to make these adjustments

· Please be mindful of other vehicles pulling in and out of pickup points

· If you find that you are in the traffic close to Porter Road during pickup, consider leaving a few minutes later

· Pickup is between 2:25 and 2:45

Your child's teacher has established a system that fosters a love for reading in their class. We want to continue this when they are home. Check in with your child to see what they are reading. Here are some questions that will help build your child's comprehension of any fiction independent reading book.

Jogging For Jones!!!

Supporting Mrs. Jones with our annual fun run (**Note** Dates have Changed)

As many of you know, the fun run we had scheduled last spring was cancelled due to the pandemic. We still plan to have the fun run in support of our principal, Mrs. Jones. In order to maintain the safety of all mustangs, this will not look like our typical fun run. Instead, students will participate with their classmates during one of their designated P.E. classes. Students will also receive a fun run shirt and a snack provided by our wonderful PTO. Below are the dates for each class' Fun Run 2020!

Notes from our Nurse

Parents, please be sure that we have your current contact information on file.



Students should not be sent to school to be evaluated by the school nurse for an illness or injury that occurred at home. Any serious illnesses or injuries occurring at home must be evaluated by the student’s healthcare provider.


The following guidelines should be followed when determining if a student should stay at home instead of coming to school, due to an illness:


· Following a nighttime bout of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or fever; student should stay at home and be watched for further symptoms.


· Fever is defined as a temperature of 100.4 or greater, without the use of fever-reducing medications. The student’s temperature should remain normal without the use of fever-reducing medications for 24 hours prior to returning to school.


· It is also advisable for students to stay home from school if any of the following symptoms are exhibited: unusual skin eruptions, persistent cough, body and muscle aches, loss of taste or smell, and sore throat.




COVID-19

My primary concern is for the health and wellbeing of our students, faculty, and staff. Attendance is important, and we want students to be healthy and in school every day. This year, students showing any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 should be kept home until they are well.



To keep all students and staff healthy, it is imperative that parents monitor their child for symptoms and fever before sending them to school. Follow these key steps:


· Take the temperature of any child displaying symptoms such as shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell, coughing, sore throat, muscle aches, chills, new or worsening cough, or runny nose.


· Keep child at home one or more days to monitor symptoms


· If you decide to have your child tested for COVID-19, notify the school nurse the day your child is tested so the school can implement enhanced cleaning and disinfecting protocols in the classroom(s) where your child attended. As always, all information will remain strictly confidential between the school and the family.



Students and staff will be excluded from school if they have any of the following, with or without fever:


· Shortness of breath

· Difficulty breathing

· Loss of taste or smell

· New or worsening cough



This is not a complete list of all COVID-19 symptoms, but only those that trigger an automatic exclusion from school/work and evaluation for COVID-19. Other symptoms may include: fever, chills, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, sore throat, congestion, runny nose, nausea/vomiting, or diarrhea.


Many COVID-19 cases show no symptoms at all. An infected person is able to spread the virus for up to two days before they have any symptoms. Given the overlap of these symptoms with other more common illnesses and the lack of symptoms in some cases, it is not possible to identify and exclude all cases of COVID-19 through screening of symptoms.



Students and staff that have been excluded for these symptoms should not return to school/work until they have either tested negative for COVID-19 or had a medical evaluation that determined that their symptoms were more than likely due to another illness (i.e. sore throat caused by strep throat). If diagnosed by a healthcare provider as having an illness other than COVID-19, students/staff may return to school when all non-contagious criteria for that illness have been met.



Students or staff that require testing for COVID-19 will be required to provide the school nurse with a negative PCR test or must complete the current isolation criteria for COVID-19 in order to return to school.



Symptoms explainable by an underlying condition (such as shortness of breath or cough for an individual with asthma) may not require exclusion from school and will be evaluated by the nurse on a case by case basis.



This guideline is based on what is known as of August 2020, about COVID-19 and will be updated as more information and guidance become available by the Center of Disease Control and Prevention and South Carolina Department of Health.

Face Masks

Rock Hill School District Three will require the use of face coverings for students and staff while riding school buses and on school grounds. Based on CDC recommendations, masks with one-way valves or vents will not be allowed. Please click the link below for the district’s mask policy.

Cloth face coverings should be washed after each use. It is important to always remove face coverings correctly and wash your hands after handling or touching a used face covering.



Please talk to your child about the importance of properly wearing a mask to control the spread of COVID-19. We have noticed that some children do not keep their masks in the right position. Masks should be worn so that they are completely covering the nose and mouth. Overall, everyone is doing a great job with wearing masks, washing hands, and social distancing. Working together, we can help control the spread of illnesses in our school.




Immunizations

If you received a notice stating that your child was missing one or more required immunizations, please be sure that you turn in all necessary documentation of your child receiving those immunization by the expiration date on the form. If documentation of the missing immunizations is not received by the date listed on the form, your student will not be able to attend school, in person or virtually, until they are up-to-date, and documentation is provided.

If your child's district-issued laptop is in need of repairs, please call 803-324-TECH. In the event the laptop needs to be worked on by a technology team member, you will be asked to bring the laptop to the Flexible Learning Center located at 1234 Flint Street Extension.
