Time-Saving Tips Help Priorities Happen
You know that giving your child your time and attention supports success in school. But things often seem to get in the way ... a job takes longer than expected, the phone rings or an appointment crops up. You can’t avoid every distraction, but you can prevent a lot of them.
To make sure you have time for your child:
Use calendars. Every family member should keep track of important events and responsibilities on a personal calendar. Each week, meet as a family to schedule time together. Treat family appointments as seriously as you would business meetings.
Make to-do lists. Every night, check your calendar. List what you need to do the next day. Then, in the morning, try to do the most important tasks first. As you complete each item, check it off. Teach your child to follow your example.
Eliminate time wasters. If you spend too much time playing on your phone or looking for lost items, work on changing those habits. Schedule your social media time for after your child goes to bed. Organize a messy closet.
Use small chunks of time. Take advantage of free minutes you have here and there. Practice spelling words with your child while waiting in line at the bank or grocery store. Play word games in the car or on the bus.
Explore work options. Some employers give parents free time to volunteer at school. Others offer “flex time” to make arranging child care easier. Find out about your company’s policies.
Just say no. Feel good about turning down activities that don’t support your priorities. Ban devices during dinner. Tell a friend who invites you out on family night, “I wish I could go, but I have another commitment.”

School Lunch Hero Day is May 3rd!
Friday, May 3rd is School Lunch Hero Day and we would love your support in celebrating these wonderful HEROES!!!! Join us in thanking Mrs. Dresie, Mrs. Rowley and Mrs. Safaii!
Our kitchen staff does an amazing job of providing high quality nutritious meals to our Shadow Hills students. Not only do they feed hungry students, but they often are that special 'lunch lady' to so many of the students.
Since 2013, the School Nutrition Association has celebrated School Lunch Hero Day (based on Jarret Krosoczka's graphic novel series 'Lunch Lady') to provide the opportunity for parents, students, school staff and communities to thank those who provide healthy meals to over 30 million students each school day.
Check out Jarret's TED talk video about School Lunch Heroes!

Boise's Food & Nutrition Services Staff provide over 22,000 breakfasts and lunches each day along with many other services like summer feeding, fresh fruits and vegetables program, and 'at risk' suppers.
We encourage students to take the time to make their day. Thank them for their hard work and kindness. Sometimes people just need a little reminder of how important they really are in the lives of children!
