Confessions from an Introvert

Follow-up confession from April 10-14 edition:

It hasn't been long since the last confession, but this person has already learned something. When reading the definition of an introvert, which I often do to spur new ideas and kill the monotony of repeated words, one of the terms stated was "reticent". Being an introvert you'd think I knew its meaning. (I'm totally embarrassing my colleagues because I had to research it. And have been spell checked three times already. Sigh.) Anyway, I was pleased to find I do not fit the description of this word. My family will contest to this. (It means not revealing one's thoughts or feelings readily.) If my words don't say it, my face does. It can't shut up for the life of it. So, I am already on my way to introvert recovery. Next step: finding an event and attending it. I think I will try Red Poppy Festival in Georgetown this weekend.

New confession: I have been before. And thus, will pass on this important information: LADIES, do not use the port-a-potties. The little white church, Grace Heritage, has bathrooms in the back. Much cleaner and more light.

New word: reticent

How to pronounce it: http://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/pronunciation/english/reticent

Roaring Readers

Ever seen the commercial with the gentlemen dangling the dollar by the fishing line saying "Oh, you almost had it. Gotta be quicker than that!"? Well, these third graders can tell you how it feels. Within reach of their reading goal early in the nine weeks, the teacher bumped it up to give the students more of a challenge. The library director monitors student progress, giving a special prize to the student who reaches their point & grade goal first. And, as witness to the dangling dollar, sees much hilarity ensue. (Not to mention good books find a home in the hearts of students, where they belong.) Whoever ends up meeting both goals first, these guys are all winners.

Pictured are the students whom, at some point, were in the lead to be the first third grader to meet their goals this nine weeks. Stay tuned for the winner! Left to right: Onasis Mendez, Lilly Noack, Grayson Smith, Addison Crane, Nicholas Vanderslice, and Kricket Dowd.

All books due back to the library by Friday, May 12, 2017.

Didn't hear? Well, here's how...

The school has done an excellent job of spreading the news. If your student shoved the flier into the backpack or trashcan, you can find it through various other resources.

School website, Twitter, Facebook, School Weekly Newsletter, Paw Prints, Dojo, and the marquee. Students also get daily announcements, and during emergencies, and all-call text, phone message, and email are sent out. Please check them frequently and stay in the know! Please make sure your contact information is up to date in the school office to ensure receipt of these.

Student Council meeting at lunch Tuesday!

There will be a MADD presentation by Mrs. Wolfe on Tuesday, May 2 @ 1:00. This will be for Juniors and Seniors only.

Freebies

The library has three boxes of adult interest level books if anyone is interested! Anything from mystery to romance. You may find something for yourself or a friend.

Friendly Reminder: The end of the school year is quickly approaching. Don't let obligations surprise you. Has your student paid the lunch bill? Laptop insurance? Any other outstanding fines? Turned in or renewed library books? Given the teacher back what was borrowed? Ask your student to check with cafeteria, library, office, and teachers to make sure! Thank you for your understanding.

STUDENTS: Do not loan out your calculators, chargers, or laptops. You are responsible for their care and return. If you forgot yours, do not ask a classmate to borrow theirs. Remember yours. *TEST DATES: Remember your calculator. There are no extras in the library to borrow another one!
