Health Tip of the Week
180 kids died from the flu last season (80 percent of which weren't vaccinated against the illness). A study from last year indicates for the first time that the flu vaccine can actually be life-saving for young children. Not only does the vaccine significantly reduce the chance of hospitalization, but it also drastically lowers the risk of severe complications and even death from influenza.
Spinal Screenings - Note from Nurse Breznik
Parents will be notified of the results of the screening only if professional follow-up is necessary. This screening procedure does not replace your child’s need for regular health care and check-ups.
- STUDENTS SHOULD WEAR OR BRING SHORTS TO SCHOOL FOR THE EXAM.
- ALL STUDENTS MUST REMOVE THEIR SHIRT FOR THIS EXAM. FOR THIS REASON, WE REQUEST THAT GIRLS WEAR A HALTER TOP, TUBE TOP, SPORTS BRA, OR A TWO-PIECE SWIMSUIT TOP UNDERNEATH THEIR SHIRT ON EXAM DAY.
According to state law, all 7th grade girls and 8th grade boys must receive the spinal screening. If, for religious reasons, you do not wish to have your child screened, you are to submit an affidavit of religious exemption to this office no later than Monday, Dec 3rd..

FISD District News
Secondary Schools moving to 9-week grading periods for 2019-2020 school year
Starting next school year, middle and high school students will receive grades every nine weeks instead of every six weeks. The change will give students more time to demonstrate what they know before final grades are recorded. It will also give teachers more time to assess a student’s grasp of concepts and reteach or reassess, as necessary. Click HERE for more information.
