Glengary Staff and Community Book Club

This year's Parenting Fair http://bit.ly/2xqSO5N will be featuring Dr. Michele Borba as the keynote speaker. Her most recent book is entitled: Unselfie: Why Empathetic Kids Succeed in Our All-About-Me World. I have started reading this book over the summer and it is excellent. The book goes right along with the Positivity Project and some of the data presented in the book directly correlates with the data backing the Positivity Project. I would like to invite you to be a part a Glengary Book Club where parents and educators come together to discuss this excellent book.

Positivity Project September Character Strength Calendar

This week students are learning about curiosity. Individuals with the character strength of curiosity are more likely to ask questions and try new things. Curiosity is a form of courage. Asking questions exposes the fact that we don't know and trying a new activity means we might fail. But, it's only through asking questions and exploring new opportunities that we learn and grow. Please encourage your child's curiosity at home. Allow them to ask a lot of questions and investigate the things they are interested in. As Walt Disney once said, "We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious...and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths."

Next week, students will learn about Open-mindedness. Open-mindedness is the willingness to actively search for evidence that goes against one's favored beliefs, plans, or goals. Open-minded individuals are able to weigh all evidence fairly when available. This character strength helps individuals build knowledge about specific issues or points of view-and provide sound recommendations and advice. Open-minded people do not jump to conclusions. Instead, they seek out and examine all available evidence before forming an opinion. When approaching conversations with your child at home, encourage them to practice being open-minded by seeing all perspectives.

    General Reminders!

Change of plans for the end of the day: Please help us keep track of your child's end of the day plans when they change. Please ensure that you are communicating the change of plans with the office at Glengary, your child's teacher, along with your child. Without notification from you, we will always revert to the end of the day plans we have on file. If you are sending an email, please include cherylmaten@wlcsd.org (our full day secretary) to avoid any mishaps. We realize that changes occur but your child's safety is our priority and the more staff aware is helpful.

Parking Lot and Apple Pick up Reminders: Please help keep all of our students safe during drop off and dismissal. It is extremely important that students are not walking through the parking lot or crossing by themselves. Additionally, please do not bypass the Apple pick up, park, and wave your child across the loop and across the parking lot. Please also make sure your child is entering the vehicle on the passenger side for their own safety. Thank you for your help and attention to this.

The first bell rings at 8:50 am and the second bell at 8:55 am. Students arriving after 8:55 am are tardy. Please help us improve students' attendance record by arriving to school on time each day! Arriving on time each day helps all students to have a great day!
