Teacher Talk
Thank you for attending Parent Information Night last week. If anyone has questions or comments, please don't hesitate to email me!
Many parents have signed up for Remind 101 but I still have a handful that haven't. Please take a moment to do this. When your children realize that I can send a picture to you personally, they start begging me to do it. I don't want to have to say that you haven't signed up and I can't do it..... (pressure!!!)
Sign up for Remind 101!! I use this to send out pics and quick announcements all of the time.
We are still in the assessing mode around here. That means that many of my awesome plans were pushed to the side if finding that perfect reading level took longer than expected. Things will right naturally in the next few weeks so please know that I'm not going to stress if the same thing appears on more than one week for teaching. Welcome to the first of a school year!
TFK orders are due by Wed., Sept. 6th. Please make sure it's turned in. I have to meet the deadline imposed by accounting. I plan on paying for anyone that hasn't submitted money by then so everyone has this age-appropriate, current event publication.
Dates to Remember:
Sept. 4th: School Holiday for students and teachers!!
Sept. 6th: TFK Orders due today!
Sept. 7th: PTA Club Night (Please join PTA so our class has 100% participation! PTA helps teachers and students so much across the year. Check out their website.)

Concepts We'll Study:
Writing Workshop: This week we will review seed and watermelon stories and use those "seed story" ideas to begin writing a personal narrative. Students will focus on verbally retelling a story to make sure they have a beginning, middle, and end. They will begin drafting (first writing) after that.
Grammar & Word Study: We will start our first grammar unit with a focus on nouns and verbs. Everyone will begin their first sort this week. We will focus on understanding the system of sorting in third grade and all use the same words for the first few sorts. Our focus will be on common syllables in words.
Science: We reviewed the states of matter and physical properties we could use to describe matter. This week we will continue to explore these properties through various labs.
Math: We will use what we've reviewed and learned about graphs to dive into problem-solving. Students will be using addition and subtraction up to 3 digits while working this week.
Social Studies: We are going to create a community constitution this week. Most classes do this right away but I believe students need the opportunity to settle into routines and learn the class before creating a governing set of rules for our community of learners.
Handwriting and Keyboard Skills: Students were assessed and information will be coming soon. I will not start either of these areas for another week.
