Edward Gough Whitlam was the 21st prime minister of Australia, leading Australia from 1972 to 1975.He was the leader of the Labour Party from 1967 to 1977.He was born on July 11,1916, Kew Vic Melbourne.


The Whitlam goverment initiated Australia's first federal legislation on human rights, the environment and heritage.Gough and his wife Margaret Whitlam travelled more widely then any of their pedecessors.The Whitlam goverment brought reforms in every field, like health, housing and education.

Gough's early years were spent in Melbourne, Sydney and then Canberra, where he finished school-several times.when he was newly married to Margaret it was interrupted by war when he served in the royal Australian air force from 1942 to 1945.
