SSD/Maplewood Richmond Heights

June 2022

Dear MRH Families,

Although this school year certainly had its challenges, our students demonstrated significant learning gains both academically and socially/emotionally. The whole MRH community has persevered in order to support students. I hope the summer brings new and different learning opportunities for your child(ren) and an opportunity to experience a different pace of life.

As always, thank you for your partnership.

Respectfully,

Ben Gleason

Lead Special Education Coordinator

Parent Education and Diversity Awareness

The highly successful SSD Parent Leadership Institute that has had more than 280 participants since 2007 is once again being offered under a new name of Family Leadership Institute (FLI).

The Institute will be Wednesday evenings from 5:30-8:30pm at SSD Central Office: October 12, 19, 26 and November 2.

If you are a parent or family member who makes the educational decisions for a child with a disability, investing the time to attend these four Wednesday evening sessions will provide:

VISION: for the future of your child.

KNOWLEDGE: to help effectively participate in your child's education.

LEADERSHIP SKILLS: to improve the educational climate for all children.

ACCESS: to new resources, friends, and experts to help you on your journey.

Health and Wellness

With the recent tragedies in our nation, it can be hard to know how to support your children when they have questions and fears about violence in our communities.

Here are resources to help children deal with trauma.

MRH Parent Advisory Council

The MRH Parent Advisory Council offers an opportunity to connect with other parents of students with disabilities and to learn about topics of interest. Please contact MRH parent Mrs. Kim Gifford if you are interested in participating.
