Welcome
Welcome back everyone! I hope everyone had a safe and fun break.
This Week in 123
For reading this week, we are working on a Readers' Theater script and will perform them on Thursday for our classmates. We will wrap up Unit 6 with a fun drama game on Friday! Mrs. Meinel will also be completing the Unit 6 assessments during our Daily 4 (small group) work time.
In math we are playing a dice addition game and writing number sentences, counting up or down from a given number, and learning more about place value with bundling sticks and drawing tens and ones.
Our theme for the week is pets! We will do a cool art project and writing activity to go along with our unit.
FYI
This Wednesday morning, we will be collaborating with the Deerfield Police to practice a school-wide lockdown drill. I teach the procedures with positive language, as some students are a little leery and hesitant about why we may need to practice for a lockdown or lockout situation. We use the saying "Locks, Lights, Out of Sight" for a lockdown to help us remember these steps: Pull the door shut (it is always set to be locked) so we are locked in our classroom, turn out the lights so it looks as if nobody is present, and get out of sight from the doors and windows. In our classroom, our "Out of Sight" area is our bathroom. Mrs. Meinel has her phone with her in case we need a flashlight (for the drill we will only have the lights out for a few seconds, just to practice). There will be lots of discussion about what we will do prior to the drill actually happening. Please let me know if you have any further questions regarding these procedures! Our goal is that all students feel safe at school. Unfortunately, this is one of the things we have to teach to do so.
Wrap-Up
As always, please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions, concerns, or comments you may have! Take care.
