Jaguar Journal Vol. 9
October 14, 2022
Hello Merrill Community,
Hello Merrill Families,
We hope that you have a wonderful long weekend with your families. We wanted to communicate with you all some support needed to strengthen our Merrill Community.
Bathrooms: Merrill has unfortunately been victim to a stream of vandalism in our bathrooms. This has resulted in broken stall doors (unable to be fixed), broken soap dispensers, broken paper towel dispensers, graffiti, clogged toilets, clogged sinks, broken pens and ink on floors and walls. Please help us in speaking with your child about bathroom use and safety. If they see something, encourage them to say something.
Cell Phones/Earbuds: We do not allow cell phone/earbud use during school. Please remind your students cell phones/earbuds need to be in lockers or backpacks or at home. If a student is on their cell phone/using earbuds they will be collected, and parents/guardians will need to pick up these belongings at the end of the day. We will begin this at the start of Quarter 2 10/24.
The Meow Wolf Field Trip with 7th grade, Newcomers and our MI-S students was a BLAST! Thank you PTSA! We received feedback that there was not enough information sent home regarding the logistics of this school-wide field trip (bus/lightrail/timing). Thank you for the opportunity to be better. Moving forward we will ensure the exact timing and transportation details are spelled out.
Merrill Meals: Did you know that Merrill Meals pantry provides free groceries once a month to Merrill families that would like to receive extra food? We know that everyone could use a little support from time to time, and we’re here to help. Families can tailor their food orders to get the foods that they like to eat and match their eating preferences. If you’d like to receive free, nutritious groceries once per month, please complete this anonymous and private food order form: Merrill Meals Order Form
8th Grade Language Arts Field Trip Fundraising!!!! Our 8th grade students will be reading To Kill A Mockingbird, and the touring Broadway production will be here performing To Kill A Mockingbird at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts in February. Each ticket costs $40. Please log on to your MySchoolBucks account and select 8th grade Language Arts Field Trip, and if you can sponsor a student in need, we would appreciate it! We are writing grants as well to hopefully raise enough for all 8th graders to have this incredible experience. Here’s a video preview of the tour

Merrill Thanksgiving Baskets:
In lieu of Thanksgiving baskets that we’ve provided in past years to Merrill families in
need, this holiday season we are shifting to grocery gift cards so each family can
purchase the traditional foods they prefer. If you can support a family ($25 or $50) or
want to contribute any amount, please donate to our PayPal by November 1st by clicking
HERE and comment with Merrill Families in Need (MFIN).

COOL CLASSROOMS!
Ms. Wendy’s students were absolutely amazing as they acted out different parts of the story, “The Little Old Lady Who Wasn’t Afraid of Anything.” Some of the student assistants were even able to help with the props for the story. What a creative way to learn!
