Tech Tidbit
The first two Digital Citizenship lessons are complete. I wanted to share with everyone the information the tech teachers have presented to the students:
Self Image and Identity - This topic includes the simple message to be the same nice, kind, and friendly person online that one's friends expect while interacting with them face to face. Students will learn that they may lose friends if they are friendly face to face and then say mean things to or about someone online.
Relationships and Communications - This topic encourages students to not start an online relationship or communicate with anyone that they do not know from school, church, or an extracurricular activity.
School Counselor's Corner
Parents,
This week the focus of Project Care was showing care and compassion for new students and teachers. If you can practice some of the tips below with your student, it will help them develop good social skills along with a strong base of empathy towards others.
1. Have your student practice introducing themselves to a new student or teacher.
2. Have them practice ways to include others in conversations or group activities. A simple, “please come play with us” demonstrates caring.
3. Talk about accepting differences in other students with your child. Some students may act or dress differently than your student but they should still be respected for being the unique individuals that they are.
4. Help your student with learning how to read the physical cues of others and have them try to predict how others may feel about certain situations.
These are skills that many of us assume that children know but really need to be taught and modeled for the students. They are skills that will help them in all kinds of different situations in the future and will help build the quantity and quality of their friendships.
Until next week.......
