News From Mrs. Toleman:
The best part of my job is getting into the classrooms to see the amazing work that is happening. I have even had the chance to teach a few lessons to some classrooms. Wow! There really is great work all around taking place. Hopefully your children have been talking to you about some of those things. The second trimester will be coming to a close on March 8th with report cards being distributed the following week. If you ever have concerns about your child's progress, please don't hesitate to reach out to his/her teacher.
Looking ahead to March, we will be kicking off PARP as soon as we end Read-a-thon. These two months are probably my favorite months because we get to talk about books continually with students. Stay tuned for the PARP calendar and all the exciting activities that will go with it.
Our Kindness Crew continues to work hard to spread kindness throughout the building. They have been highlighting students who have been Caught Being Kind. They have their pictures taken in front of our beautiful display in the hallway. As we know, kindness is contagious and just the other day a group of first grade students were going around the school handing out kindness cards to others. These selfless acts make us so proud!
Kindergarten Registration is now open. If you have a child born on or before December 1, 2014, they are eligible for enrollment in Kindergarten for 2019.The registration form is on the District website.
I hope you all have a wonderful rest of the month. As always, my door is always open should you have any concerns or just want to chat.
Respectfully,
Rebecca Toleman

February 2019 News-Kindergarten
February is such a short month in Kindergarten! The children will be very busy writing and sending Valentines to their peers. This is a great time to teach your child about the mail system, and show them first hand how it works.
The 100th Day Celebration will be coming up in February. Each day the Kindergarten classes count how many days we have attended school until we reach 100! We are also practicing counting to 100 by 1’s and 10’s. Please reinforce this skill at home so that your child can become a part of the “100 Club” in Kindergarten! It is amazing how quickly they learn how to count.
February is also Dental Health month and we will celebrate President’s Day as well. We will be focusing on mastering all of the snap words and continuing Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop, phonics, as well as addition and subtraction facts in math.
Please be sure to continue to review: rhyming, beginning, middle, and ending sounds, writing, and the math facts to 5. Your child will need to practice reading aloud for at least 15 minutes a day to ensure that they are sounding out words and strengthening their fluency skills! Keep up the great work!
Children should continue to complete their homework on a weekly basis to review and prepare them for first grade. This is an exciting time of the year where they are reading on their own and excel very quickly. Thanks for all that you do!
Warmest Wishes,
Mrs. Johnson

First Grade Travels!
First Graders were busy traveling the world through our guest speakers. We have traveled to Greece, Russia, Ireland, France, Antarctica, Chile, China, and Japan! We've learned that there are differences and similarities between these countries and our own country! Speaking of traveling the world, we hope all your Stanley projects are on their way to a host family. If you have any concerns about where to send it, please contact us ASAP so we can help you. A reminder that Flat Stanley Night is scheduled for Wednesday, February 27, 6-7.

February News From Second Grade!
Our second graders have been working very hard! They have started opinion writing about their favorite book characters and books. They have to give three solid reasons why they think their character and their book are the best.
In math, they have been learning about composing and decomposing ones and tens when adding and subtracting 2 and 3 digit numbers. In reading, students have been reading bigger and longer books- building their reading muscles!
Coming in February will be a new science experiment where the students design their own building using simple materials. We may have some engineers and architects on our hands!
We are looking forward to Valentine’s Day and our February break.
In the meantime, we will hopefully get to go outside and enjoy some of this newly fallen snow! Enjoy the pictures from last week from both classes playing in the snow!
