Davis/Martin Peek at the Week
April 9th - April 13th
Dear Parents,
We are still missing a few permission slips for our Capitol field trip on Tuesday, April 17th. We will get back between 5:15 and 5:30 p.m., so students will need to be picked up. If your child has not returned their form, please do so as soon as possible.
We are less than a month away until the ACT Aspire state testing, which will begin the week of April 30th. We are working our hardest to make sure our students are as prepared as possible and have the confidence to give it their best effort. Students' attendance at school is so important. Also, giving your child words of encouragement each morning does go a long way! We appreciate your support with this!
Talent Show tryouts will be Wednesday, April 18th.
Several reminders for this week:
- Honor Roll Pancake Breakfast is on Monday.
- UHI Preview Night is Thursday from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. Come join us for a fun, informative night!
- Girls' Club will be meeting on Thursday.

IN LITERACY & SOCIAL STUDIES:
- Reading: We will continue using nonfiction texts to practice our reading skills. Students will explain how an author uses reasons and evidence to support their points. We will be strengthening our understanding of context clues and how readers use them to build meaning.
- 5 A Day Language Review Week 21: quiz on Friday
- Spelling: r-influenced vowels continued
- Guided Read Aloud: The Wild Robot written by Peter Brown

IN MATH & SCIENCE:
MATH:
- WE will continue to work with volume. This week we will use multiplication to calculate volume, find the volume of 2 non-overlapping rectangular prisms, and solve word problems involving volume. We will have an assessment next week.
SCIENCE:
- We will be practicing reading and interpreting data from tables and graphs.
HOMEWORK:
- Monthly Reading and Math Logs: Students are being asked to keep a log of how many nights they read and work on Math throughout the month of March. They will turn these in on April 1st. Don't forget to log pages read and time spent on math.
- Students will most always have math homework every night through the week, Fridays and weekends off.
- Weekly Word Work: This is due every Friday morning that we have Spelling. Students complete the first page in class on Mondays, and are then responsible for completing the remaining 4 activities on their own. This assignment is worth 20 points.
