Fall Parent/Teacher Conferences are only a few weeks away. This is a very important opportunity for you to meet with your child’s teacher. Conferences give parents, guardians, and teachers the chance to talk over a student's achievements, interests, study habits, attitude toward different subjects, potential for improvement and other topics. Conferences are the main occasion for exchanging specific information and perspectives about student learning, achievement and plan of action to reach their full potential. I am confident that you will have positive and productive conversations with your child’s teachers. Please see below for more information on how to sign up!

CO-VID GUIDELINES--PLEASE READ
For the safety of our students and staff please read and follow these district guidelines.
If your student has been tested and is waiting for a result, please keep your student at home until the results are available and call the safeline to report the absence.
If your student has been exposed to another person with Co-VID, please keep your student at home and call the safeline.
If your student is being continually exposed to a household member with Co-VID there are quarantine and exposure guidelines we must follow. Please call the office and let us know so we can properly guide you.
If your student tests POSITIVE for Co-VID please keep your student home AND call the office to report the test result. Students who test positive must remain home for 10 days regardless of vaccination status. The 10 days are calculated based on symptoms or if asymptomatic, test results.
COVID -19 TRAVEL REMINDERS FOR FAMILIES
The CDC recommends that unvaccinated individuals should refrain from traveling internationally. If you are not fully vaccinated and must travel, it is important to follow the CDC's recommendations. Students that travel internationally must do the following upon return if they are not fully vaccinated:
- Get tested with a viral test 3-5 days after travel AND stay home and self-quarantine for a full 7 days after travel. Even if you test negative, stay home and self-quarantine for the full 7 days. If your test is positive, isolate yourself to protect others from getting infected.
- If you don’t get tested, stay home and self-quarantine for 10 days after travel.
- Avoid being around people who are at increased risk for severe illness for 14 days, whether you get tested or not.
- Self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms; isolate and get tested if you develop symptoms.
- Follow all state and local recommendations or requirements.
Fully vaccinated individuals must get tested with a viral test 3-5 days after travel, but do not need to quarantine. They should self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms and isolate if symptoms do develop. They should also follow all state and local recommendations or requirements.

*SCOTCH EVENTS & UPDATES*
NO GUEST BUS RIDERS AT THIS TIME!
Due to contact tracing and social distancing, guest bus riders will not be allowed at this time.
ATTENDANCE - EXCUSE AN ABSENCE
Please call the Scotch Safeline at 248-865-3282 by 9:30AM if you know that your child will be late or absent from school. Your student's absence will be unexcused unless we receive a phone call within 24 hours. Failure to contact the school by calling the attendance line will result in an UNEXCUSED absence.
STUDENT NOTES
All student notes visit both the office and the teacher, therefore these notes must contain first, last, and teachers name on it. Please ensure the note size is at least 3 x 5 inches so it does not get lost in transit. No sticky notes please!.
STUDENT NOTES FOR EARLY RELEASE/PICK UP
In order to eliminate disruption to the class learning process, students are required to have a written note from their parent/guardian at the start of their school day when leaving the building during school hours. The student will give the note to their teacher, who will dismiss the student at the appropriate time. This note will also notify the office of your expected arrival time. Calling into the classroom is a disruption to the students learning process.
STUDENT MEDICATION
Physician signatures are required for students who must take medication, both prescription and over-the-counter, at school. Click HERE to print form.
Whenever possible we encourage medication doses to be scheduled during non-school hours. For those students who need medication during school hours, it is the policy of the State of Michigan to have written doctor’s authorization for students taking medication of any kind (including aspirin, medicated cough drops, eye drops, lotion, etc.) during the school day. The school office must have a written medical form from a physician stating the name of the medication, dosage, directions for administering, and the reaction that may be anticipated. Parents must carry the medication into the school office to be signed in, not the student.

NUTRITION DEPARTMENT UPDATES
Nutrition services would like to take this opportunity to welcome your student(s) to the 2021-22 school year! With day-to-day life beginning to return to normal, we wanted to share some great news that will affect all students: The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service extended the program that will provide for free meals for all students, regardless of income, for the 2021-22 school year. We are thrilled to safely serve students delicious, fresh and nutritious meals at no charge, and we are equally excited to re-introduce our favorite programs to deliver fun, exciting and tasty experiences to students throughout the coming year.
Some important information regarding meal service this school year:
- Breakfast and lunch meals will be no cost to all students.
- Please continue to apply for free or reduced priced meal benefits at Westbloomfield.familyportal.cloud. This information is critical in determining the amount of money our school receives from a variety of State and Federal supplemental programs.
- All in person meals are served in the cafeteria with required sanitation and physical distancing protocols in place.
- Since we expect more children in the lunch line this year, we will offer two choices daily. The second choice will be the consecutive second choice for the week.
- With the ongoing supply chain challenges, menus are subject to change.
Please call the Nutrition Services Office at 248.865.6733 if you have questions.

BUS TRACKER APP REMINDER
As a reminder, Durham Transportation, our district’s transportation partner, offers a helpful bus tracking app for West Bloomfield families. The Bus Tracker app is available for iOS, Android and web and allows families to track their student(s) bus along its route, to and from school.
Families will need to have their student(s) ID number(s) which are available in PowerSchool in order to log into the app and create an account. As a safety protocol, the Bus Tracker app will only allow families to see their student(s) bus route(s) only.
If you have any questions, please consult the Bus Tracker instructions and visit the Bus Tracker webpage on the Durham Transportation website for more information and to download the app.
We hope the use of the Durham Transportation Bus Tracker app will help better inform our families of slow downs and delays in the bus pick up and drop off times. We appreciate your patience, understanding, and flexibility as we navigate the first days of this new school year. We value the importance of consistency and safety in our transportation offering to families.
If you have any questions or would like more information, call our Transportation Offices at (248) 865-3680.
