2020 Teacher Grants!
December 11, 2020
Join the Education Foundation in making a difference in TCPS classrooms! Take a look at our Fall 2020 Teacher Grants below, and please consider a donation to support our teachers and inspire our children. Our goal this holiday season is to fully fund these Grants!
ZOOM BOOK CLUB ~ $555
The 5th Grade Zoom Book Club would give students the opportunity to read books (not on the iPad) and develop connections. I plan on meeting during lunch, each Wednesday.
I have chosen books that will expose students to other cultures and build empathy. This is important as they transition to a more diverse setting in middle school. My books include: Wonder- A novel about a boy with a facial difference. It is an inspiring story that teaches the importance of acceptance and kindness. Granny Torrelli Makes Soup- This is a trade book from the 5th Grade McGraw Hill program. It is a realistic fiction book about a girl who learns life lessons while cooking with her Italian grandmother. SeeSaw Girl- This is another trade book from the 5th Grade McGraw Hill program. The setting is 17th century Korea where a young girl struggles with the restrictions on her life.
Students will rekindle the love of reading by having real books, not iPads, to read. They will learn life lessons about diversity and character. Finally, they will develop connections within our group.
BIO-TECHNOLOGY UPGRADE ~ $5,204
This equipment will increase the exposure students in Biotenology, Advanced Placement Biology and Biology classes have to biotechnology during high school including but not limited to gel electrophoresis and polymerase chain reactions. The current equipment either does not work or has malfunctioning parts or there are not enough and students must work together in very large groups limiting their experience. Due to the age of the equipment, repairing it or replacing parts is not an option.
The new equipment will allow students to see the practical application of biotechnology found all around us, healing, feeding and fueling the world and will give them skills that will better prepare them for sciences in college.
