PARCC End-of-Year Testing

Students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades will take part two of the PARCC tests April 27, 28, and 29. Testing will occur in the morning and will consist of one test a day for a total of one English language arts test and two math. Your support in helping your child arrive to school on time and encouraging his/her best effort is much appreciated.

Thinking of Next Year...

Dear Parents/Guardians:

As June approaches, I know that many of your thoughts are already turning toward next school year. Soon, I will begin working with the teachers on student placement for next year. Since students move in and out of our attendance area and staffing can change over the summer, the process will continue into August. We do our best to develop classes that provide the best opportunities for optimal teaching and learning. Due to the complex nature of developing class lists, it is impossible to accommodate requests for specific classroom teachers. The following quote is from page 14 of the Parent/Student Handbook:

Many professional hours of planning and preparation are spent in the spring to ensure the most appropriate class placement for each child. To change even one student can upset the balance that was very carefully created by teachers and principals. Therefore, requests for a child's placement with a specific teacher are not invited.

We do value your input, and we invite you to share your thoughts and impressions about your child's needs. Feel free to email me at jennifer.craig@cusd200.org. It will be most helpful to receive any information you have to share by mid-May. Please understand that class placements will not be finalized and communicated to parents until sometime in August.

Thank you,

Jennifer Craig

Decorating Help Needed

Every year we change the artwork in our frames inside and outside the main office to showcase new artwork created by our students. This task takes only a couple hours if two or three people work together. Parents, if you are willing to help out with this project sometime between now and the end of May, please email principal's secretary Tami Bauer at tamara.bauer@cusd200.org

Mixing it up with a Book Scramble!

Student council organized a book scramble this week. We mixed ourselves all up grades one through five (Kindergarten was at the arboretum) and enjoyed reading a book with new friends. Students chose the book they wanted to read, but the staff member was a mystery until the time of the book scramble. Enjoy some book scramble selfies below!

Thank you for Child's Play, PTA!

A special thanks to Mrs. Lynn Kadel who served as PTA cultural arts chair this year. Child's Play performed a fall assembly for us and talked to students about the elements of a good story. Student writing was then submitted to Child's Play, and they returned April 17th to perform three plays based on our students' writing. The three plays performed were based on the works of 2nd grader Declan Sullivan, 4th grader Philip Tran, and 5th grader Sophia Hahn.

Honorable mention writers were also recognized at the assembly:
