Final of the National Entrepreneur of the Year Competition
On Thursday 23rd June, International Enterprise Academy student Katie Adams took part in the final of the National Entrepreneur of the Year competition. Following the success of her ethical celebration card business "Seeded Celebrations", Katie applied to this prestigious award. Demonstrating her entrepreneurial qualities through a virtual semi-final, Katie was one of four students in the country chosen to pitch to Peter Jones at his Head Office, with a £5,000 investment available to the winner. Katie explained in a very professional manner the unique selling points of her business and had the unique opportunity to discuss her business with many entrepreneurs throughout the day! Mr Knights joined Katie on the day, as we celebrate the first year of our association with the Peter Jones Foundation. We look forward to hearing the result of this award but whatever the outcome, we are very proud of Katie's achievement as a finalist.
More Entrepreneurial Success!!
We are thrilled to announce that two of our 'Tycoons Enterprise competition' teams have been shortlisted as a Top Tycoon Team from over 300 businesses from across the UK. Lower Sixth Group 'Seeded Celebrations' and GCSE Business group 'Hibs Bakes' have been selected. Led by Peter Jones CBE, a Judging Panel will now deliberate and decide on the 2021-22 Tycoon Finalists. Schools will be notified by Wednesday 6thJuly on whether or not their team has made it to the Final or not. We wait with anticipation to hear the outcomes and wish both teams well. This opportunity stems from our Peter Jones Foundation association, more information is available here https://www.aesessex.co.uk/sixth-form/international-enterprise-academy/
Jack Petchey Award Winners
A recent award ceremony at the Towngate Theatre in Basildon saw 61 young people from Brentwood, including 9 Anglo students, walking away with Achievement Awards presented by the Jack Petchey Foundation. Aged between 11 and 25 years, the young people from schools and colleges in Brentwood Essex, were awarded medallions and framed certificates for their contributions to their school or college community. Each of the winners also received a £250 grant for them to spend to benefit their school or youth group. In addition, eight adults were awarded Leader Awards for demonstrating outstanding ability to motivate young people, amongst these our Medical Support Officer Mrs Edwards was recognised for the role she played in keeping our students safe in school during the pandemic.
UCAS Day
As part of our UCAS programme, past students Lizzie, Jaymey and Imogen came in to talk to the current Lower Sixth about their experiences since leaving Anglo and shared key tips that they wished they had known when researching universities, careers and apprenticeships. It was wonderful to see our alumni doing so well in their chosen professional fields.
Anglo Presentation at the UNESCO World Peace Conference
On Friday 17th June, Mrs Earley presented our unique vision for internationalism to the UNESCO World Peace conference . She joined a host of presenters online from across the world in sharing the prolific and distinctive exchange and residentials programmes as well as long term exchanges and work experience model. She also discussed the Anglo International Fringe programme and curriculum adjustments over the last few years to keep internationalism as the forefront of our curriculum agenda at the school. It is a privilege to be part of this UNESCO network of schools and celebrated organisation and to see the amazing work that is taking place across every continent. We look forward to our continued work with UNESCO while we move forward with our visits programme next year.

Live Cook-Along
Our Arabic students benefited from the experience of a chef in Egypt for a live cook-along. Students had a great time making their own delicious falafel which they enjoyed for their lunch. They are looking forward to trying more Arabic food under a Bedouin tent on their upcoming visit to Cambridge University and the Eco-Mosque.
The Sakura Cherry Tree Project
The Sakura Cherry tree project began in 2019, to mark the Japan-UK Season of Culture in which Japan and the UK were celebrating the friendship between the two countries, alongside the Rugby World Cup and Tokyo 2020.
As part of the celebrations, the Japanese private sector decided to plant thousands of Japanese Sakura cherry trees across the UK. Our school was selected to receive 2 of these tree as a symbol of our friendship with Japan. Japanese has been a longstanding part of our Languages department and we were fortunate to take a group of students to visit Japan back in 2018 and strive to be able to do so again soon. Delayed by the pandemic, our cherry trees have now arrived and have been planted by our school Gardening Club by the Sanctuary. We look forward to watching the trees grow and bloom in the coming years.
