STAR News
May 28 - 31
Enjoy your LONG well-deserved weekend!
Tuesday
Also, please review your tornado and lock down drills as we will have to conduct those next week.
End of Year Istation
Please remember to have ALL of your students in grades K-8 complete the Istation assessments for Reading and Math in May. Istation data is used at the district and campus level to support personalized learning and monitor student growth.
Please make this a priority for this week, so that it is complete before the long weekend.
Awards for your personal children
Ipads
This is the important part....
On WEDNESDAY we will have someone on campus who will be collecting all of your technology. This includes student ipads, your black bags, laptop carts, and anything listed on the checkout list. If you have questions, please ask Margaret.
On that day take your checkout list and all of your technology and they will initial for the items.
Thursday @ 2:00 - STAR Spectacular
As moving begins
Please work with the teacher whose room you will be moving into. If someone is moving into your room, please make a space for the incoming teacher. As you are moving you may want to think about taking home your personal items. Remember we have summer school in our building and will also have facilities in our space fixing items and cleaning. With all of the activity, I cannot guarantee the safety of your personal things.
When you start moving please use the dolly or flatbed for heavy items. Do not drag heavy items on the tile floor. Remember that you will need to have everything put away and packed up by Friday, June 1st at 3:00pm. (That is when summer school teachers will be in the building setting up their rooms)
If you are staying in the same grade level, please leave the movement of textbooks until last. If we get crunched for time, we can do that in August. Also, try to limit the movement of furniture unless we have to move furniture because of the size of our students. (For example: 1st grade will need to move desks because they are moving into current 4th grade rooms)
Please leave all of the technology in the rooms. We will adjust printers once we have our new tech! (I can dream!)
You may use students in the last days of school to help move lighter/smaller items. Twenty students can move a lot of items in a short period of time!
More information....
Elementary Summer Boredom Busters Doc & Bookmarks The instructional coaches created a summer activities calendar for students called Summer Boredom Busters. It includes recommendations for a variety of activities all summer along with a weekly calendar that includes a Humanities, Math, Science and a Maker challenge each week. Your learning liaison will be receiving paper bookmarks via inter-office mail for students to keep to access the document easily. Please pass these out to your teachers & students!
C&I Services Survey
In order to collect information to guide the work of the C&I department for next year, please share this survey linkwith your teachers before they leave for the summer. (It'd be great to add to an end of year checklist!) Principals will have the discretion to either share the link during May OR on the last contract day for teachers on June 1st in order to reduce any unnecessary stress related to the craziness of this time of the year. We'd really like a high degree of participation/feedback on this, so if there is a way to encourage responses on your campus, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Literacy Library
Teachers,
As the end of the year approaches and you begin thinking about returning materials, we want to be sure everyone is on the same page about turn-in procedures for the Literacy Library.
The Literacy Library is shared by all of us and runs very well when we all do our part to keep it in order. We know not everyone had their own clothespins this year, so we would like to know if you need clothespins so we can get some for each teacher. Next year, teachers will keep clothespins in their own rooms, rather than using the shoe pocket system. That way, we don't have to worry about continually updating it when we have staff changes. You may keep books as long as you would like, but you do need to reshelve them yourselves before the end of the year.
Please fill out the google form to let us know if you need clothespins and also if you have any ideas for additional titles which we could add to our library. We are blessed with a multitude of resources, so sometimes the Literacy Library can get overlooked. If you haven't been in there for a while, go check it out! You may be surprised by the choices you have.
Summer Learning
Summer Learning Opportunities for GCISD Staff
If reading by the pool (or inside in the air conditioning) is your preference, be sure to stock up on titles that meet your learning needs before you leave. GCISD has two new options for accessing books, so please check these out as well!
