The Falcon Report

October 7, 2016

Welcome!

Here is your bi-weekly Falcon Report. We hope you enjoy it! Don't forget to check out our website and Facebook page. We like to keep them as up-to-date as possible with information that you'll be interested in. We hope that you'll enjoy keeping up with our school's happenings as the year goes along.

From the District Administrator's Office

An area we are giving more focus to is post-secondary preparation. Graduation from high school is not an end, but the beginning of the next chapter in one's life. We want to provide more support and guidance to our students as they determine their path. There are many options available. Post-secondary school (1-4 years), the military, technical training, or entering the workforce are some of the options. Determining the different options for different different students is the support we want to provide. By starting sooner (in middle school), we are able to allow students to explore and plan for the career path that fits them best.

By going through this process, we are not suggesting this will be the sole career a student has. Statistics tell us that a student graduating now will have 15-20 different jobs by the time they reach age 40. What we want to do is equip our kids with the tools to explore career paths and choose those that will be most fulfilling.

From the Elementary Principal's Office

With the all leaves changing colors and farmers cutting the crops are a sign that fall is here. I have noticed some wonderful fall activities that the elementary students are doing we at Flambeau. The 4YK students loved sharing their favorite part of their trip to the apple orchard during lunch. Mrs. Steckel’s class had great smells coming up of the classroom as they were making applesauce with the help of some parents and grandparents. The Kindergarten class is looking forward to the trip to the pumpkin patch in the next few weeks.

We also have parent/teacher conferences notes that should be coming home this week to try to schedule a time to meet and discuss how the students are doing so far to the start of the year. The Scholastic Book Fair will be at school from October 20th to October 28th and after school on the 20th and 25th from 3:30-6:00 in the Elementary IMC.

Our next reading night is October 18th and hope to see you there!

From the Middle/High School Principal's Office

Career Cruising in Wisconsin is an electronic tool that supports self-exploration and planning to achieve students’ potential in school, career and life. Soon all 6-12 students will be given accounts to start exploring options in the Career Cruising database. Students will learn about themselves—their interests, skills, preferences and aspirations—so they can explore career opportunities that are right for them. Students will also learn about career possibilities and educational pathways by exploring rich, engaging content in the database. We look forward to helping students engage in their work with Career Cruising!

From the Athletic Director's Office

While Athletics and Activities can really do a lot for a student and their academic achievement, school work needs to come first. You may or may not already be aware, but we run a study table for any students looking for a place to do homework. The study table runs on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 3:35 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Any student, athlete or not, is welcome to come in for help or just for a nice quiet place to complete homework.

Please encourage your student to join us at the study table. We have teachers on staff to help them if they need it, and it gives them a great opportunity to get some work done. Please contact me if you have any questions about Flambeau's study table.

Project Graduation

Project Graduation needs your help! They are looking for volunteers to help in the concession stand for middle school, JV, and varsity football games. If you are able to help, please contact Greg Zimmer at 715-415-4626. Thank you for your support! Without you this program would not be able to continue!
