Additional Notes

Camp Read-a-Lot

On Monday we will kick off our week long “Camp Read-a-Lot”! It’s a week of camp themed activities, including singing camp songs, reading by flashlight in sleeping bags, and competing in a camp game against other campers.

Camp activities are designed to create a fun environment where campers fine tune comprehension and vocabulary skills, play games to support and expand learning, and read, read, read! The day will begin with camp songs in the auditorium followed closely by daily camp announcements. After specials, campers will rotate for focused vocabulary instruction using poetry and games to reinforce skills. The afternoon will be spent back in our “cabin” where campers will enjoy a snack while participating in book clubs and/or partnerships, “read-to-self,” readers’ theater, and conferences. At the end of the day campers will reconvene in the auditorium for a friendly camp game of “Word Wizards.”

Your camper will be given a camp t-shirt to identify his/her cabin and camp counselor. Throughout the week we will be known as “Vo's Voracious Readers.”

Please feel free to send your camper with his/her sleeping bag, pillow, and flashlight for read-to-self. Campers will not be permitted to share any sleeping items.

I look forward to kicking off this week with your kids. Don’t worry about missing them while they are at camp – you can look forward to a post card filling you in on their week at Camp Read-a-Lot!
