Kentucky Secretary of State to Visit North Middle School
For Immediate Release
April 9, 2018
Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes will visit North Middle School on Wednesday, April 11, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. to recognize and congratulate two students that have recently won the Secretary of State’s Annual Slogan Contest.
This year North Middle School has the first place winner, Kylie Titzer, who won a $1,000 award for her slogan, "Make your mark. Do your part. Don't forget to vote smart!" North Middle School also has the third place winner, Ryan Holland, who won a $400 award for his slogan, "Your opinion means so much more than what you thought it was before! Vote!" Secretary Grimes will be recognizing both students at a ceremony at North Middle School.
The annual Slogan Contest, presented by the Secretary of State’s office, is open to all students in Kentucky in grades six through eight. The purpose of the competition is to expand the civic awareness of students who are about to be eligible to vote in local, state and national elections and to highlight the importance of this essential element of our democratic society. The sponsors for the 2017-2018, 29th Annual Essay and Slogan Contest include the University of Kentucky Scripps Howard First Amendment Center, the Kentucky Department of Education, Kentucky Education Association and KEA Retired. The UK Scripps Howard First Amendment Center also judges the essay portion of the contest.
