Weekly Update

San Luis Rey Elementary School

Principal's Message

Dear families,

I can't believe that we have been in school for 5 weeks and are beginning our 6th week of school already! Students have settled into routines and we are now on our first unit of Benchmark which is the study of government. Each grade level seeks to answer an essential question which increases in complexity as they advance through the grades. For example, in Kindergarten, scholars explore the question, "Why do we have rules?" In third grade, students ask, "Why do we need government?" Finally, in fifth grade, students consider, "Why do laws continue to evolve?" These are also great conversations to have at home.

In preparation for the re-opening of school, I have included below our parent handbook, the San Luis Rey Roadmap to Reentering School in Covid-19. In this handbook, you will find information on the safety precautions we will be taking when students are allowed to be on campus. You can also find it on our San Luis Rey Elementary School website.

When we do re-open, students will come back in a hybrid model of learning in which 1/2 of the students in a class come to school at a time to allow for physical distancing. We would keep students with their teacher and not mix classes during class or break times. Students will be placed on a Monday/Tuesday or Thursday/Friday schedule. On Wednesdays, campus will be undergoing deep cleaning and disinfecting. Students of the same household will be kept on the same schedule. We will be communicating with you by October 5th to let you know which days your students are assigned to.

Best wishes for your health and well-being,

Dr. Aranda
