6th Grade African Fashion Show
(The following was taken from the student-created 6th grade class website.)
Welcome!
Hi! We are the 6th grade class of CMS in Norwalk, Connecticut. We made outfits from different countries in Africa and we are putting on a fashion show to present them to you. Read more to learn more about us!
What is the African Fashion Show?
You may be wondering "What is the African Fashion Show?" Well, this project is a more fun way to learn about Africa's countries and culture. It's also the best way to INTEGRATE all educational subjects! Whether it's English, Language Arts, Science, you name it!
What is the purpose of the African Fashion Show?
We are doing this because it is a fun and educational way to learn about Africa's cultures and lifestyles. Some of the skills that have been taught/experienced in this student-led project is planning, sewing, measuring and many more. We also learned what it means to be responsible for you and your classmates with jobs like MC, Commentary Reader, Producer, and Director.
Where did we do the Fashion Show?
Our class worked in a lot of places in the school to achieve our goal of making this Fashion Show a success. Those places include our band teacher Anthony Nunes' room, the Gifted and Talented teacher Alyssa Malinowski's room, and our gym. But where we mainly made all of our clothes and plans was our own classroom.
How we did the African Fashion Show?
We did this by collaborating with different teachers like Anthony Nunes, Alyssa Malinowski, and our very own kooky teacher, Matthew Cingari. We also received assistance from workers from Sono Entertainment Mellodye "Sweets" Ragin and Billy "Be Kay" Keeley, Alyna's Grandmother, and Matthew Cingari's model friend Erin Anastos.
Thank You!
We would like to give credit to the people that have helped big time in the fashion show. Some people are Alyna's Grandma, workers from Sono Entertainment, Sweets Ragin and her coworker Be Kay, a beautiful model Erin Anastos, Matthew Cingari, Lisa Murray, Alyssa Malinowski, and Anthony Nunes. Also, to the people with jobs who are Dante Reynoso, Peter Santo, Sebastian Mesa, Lennox Easton, Alyna Thomas, Rosairy Ortega, Juliana McCurdy, Zoe Ragin, Melanie Salazar, Raven Bagnati, Isabella Munoz, and Amelia Rosenberg. Thanks to you all.
We will share a video of the Fashion Show at a later date.

Lottery Applications Are Now Being Accepted!
For All Incoming CMS Siblings:
The NPS District is now conducting all school choice lotteries. Even though your incoming child is a CMS sibling, you will still need to fill out a lottery application. There is one common application for all of the elementary school choice lotteries. You will find the application at the following link: https://norwalkps.org/choiceprograms
Applications will be accepted through April 29. Failure to submit an application will likely result in the loss of your sibling priority.

This fun event will feature free books for children of all ages including new releases and best sellers. There is no cost to attend. For the convenience of our families, a shuttle bus to and from the event will be provided from the South Norwalk area.
Storytellers will be onsite along with authors, a DJ, food trucks, snacks and popcorn, a photo booth, local vendors, partners and more! Representatives from each school across the district will also be there showcasing their school spirit.
“This exciting collaboration between NPS and Norwalk unions will not only allow us to enrich our classroom libraries, but also to support libraries in homes across Norwalk. Teachers and families will have the opportunity to select books from an array of titles and genres, inspiring a love for reading, and the ability to explore new topics, people, cultures and adventure,” said NPS Superintendent Dr. Alexandra Estrella.
