The Bloody Battle of Tarawa
Witness-Robert Sherrod
The Battle
This battle occurred Southwest of Hawaii. Sherrod described the sky as huge flashes of orange and red filled, illuminating and lighting up the whole area. Many bomb and explosives were set off to try to kill the Japanese. The Americans thought they were dead, but they were wrong. The Japanese began aiming fire, shooting as fast and as much as they can. They were not a very good shot though. Sherrod describes the moment and he said he was "scared for his life". Many lost lives during this battle, hence the name "the bloody battle".
