Canvas Learning Management System & Parent Meetings
As you know, this year all students, grades Young 5s-12 began using Canvas, a learning management system that replaced BlackBoard and itsLearning. We are excited for the opportunity to have a consistent system for families to access student learning. At the secondary level (Grades 7-12), parents will also be able to see student assignments and grades at the same time.
We have worked for the last year to prepare for this transition. Classroom teachers are using Canvas to provide instruction, resources, activities, and assessments for students.
Students have also been using Canvas, and we will be launching the parent component this Monday, October 3. With your parent account, you will be able to easily view the assignments and grades for your student(s).
Please look for another email Monday with the instructions to create your account. We will also host two parent webinars to walk through all Canvas can do. Please try to attend whichever session fits your schedule. They should last about an hour.

Friday is Our Day of Awesomeness
Please dress for the weather this Friday. Comfy clothes/activewear is probably best. It would also be a good idea for students to wear "slides" or slip on shoes and bring an extra pair of socks to change into after the event.
Also, students should try to wear the following colors on Friday:
Young Fives- Purple
Kindergarten- White
1st Grade- Yellow
2nd Grade- Red
3rd Grade- Gray
4th Grade- Green
5th Grade- Blue
6th Grade- Orange
We're hoping grade level shirts arrive this week for those who ordered, but if not, try to wear your class color.
Donate To The Candy Monster
We're collecting bags of "nut free" candy between now and October 19th.
Trunk Or Treat- Friday, October 21
Halloween Around Edison
Halloween takes place on Monday, October 31st this year. It will be an Early Release Day- 1:30PM Dismissal. Lunch is served and childcare is available for registered students.
- Parade: A short "Halloween Parade" will take place beginning at 10:00AM on Monday, October 31st. Weather permitting, we will parade out the main doors and around the building. Our Y5s & kindergarten students will lead the parade around each classroom and then out around the building. All are welcome to come and watch our costume parade outdoors!
- Classroom Activities: Classrooms/grade levels will be planning for Halloween activities and celebrations individually, either before or after the parade. If teachers request parent volunteers to help facilitate the classroom activities, all volunteers will have to submit a Background Check.
- Costumes: Students may come to school in costume on Monday, October 31st. They can stay in costume for the duration of the day. Costumes need to be school appropriate and cannot depict violence or excess blood/gore. No fake weapons are allowed in school (i.e. toy guns, swords, blades, etc). Costume masks can be worn for the parade, but not throughout the day. For costumes that have short skirts/shorts, leggings or pants need to be worn underneath.
