Big Hollow Mission and Vision

Our Mission: Inspiring a diverse school community to be passionate and empathetic learners.
Our Vision: "Big Hollow School District #38 will be a model of student achievement for elementary school districts in the State of Illinois."

Preparing for Greatness

Throughout the summer, our teams have been hard at work to create a welcoming environment for students upon their return. The building has gotten a few facelifts, and there have been some moves. We are ready to start the year with excitement and energy. We will be spending this year focusing on "Living Like a Warrior" using the hashtag #LLAWarrior. Make sure to tell your students to get ready for a special welcome on the first day!

5th Grade Transition Camp

We are excited for our first transition camp on August 15-17. Parents of children who have registered and paid for the activities are invited to attend a luncheon from 11:00-11:30 on August 17 to celebrate your children. Due to transition camp, 5th grade supply drop off is from 12:30-7:00pm on Thursday August 17th.

Things to Lookout For

Currently, our goal is to have schedules ready in Skyward on Friday evening. While we are working diligently to meet that goal, please wait for an email announcement to let you know they are officially ready.

Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports

PBIS has been a district-wide initiative since the 2015-2016 school year. Our teams have put in a lot of work and effort to increase the effectiveness of our work. Students will continue receiving instruction on social-emotional topics twice monthly. New this year, they will have an opportunity to earn many different incentives and privileges throughout the school. Stay tuned for an addition to our website highlighting our accomplishments.

We are happy to announce that Ms. Carrie Coats has been hired on as an additional assistant principal, working primarily with 5th and 6th grade. Ms. Stephanie Meek will continue her work as assistant principal working primary with 7th and 8th grade. Find their contact information below.

Addition of New Staff

We have added some new staff members to start the process of lowering class sizes throughout the school. We aren't where we want to be yet, but we are headed in the right direction.

New Opportunities

Students will have a few new leadership opportunities. We are happy to add back an official chapter of National Junior Honor Society. We are also in the process of developing a board of student leaders to take on several duties throughout the school.

Attendance Guidelines

Attendance procedures are in the process of revision. We will send detailed information home via standard mail and email when the procedures are finalized.
