The Charming Colony for Catholics
Make Mounds of Money In Maryland!
So You Want to Move to the New World?
Good. That's a wonderful choice. Now your next step is choosing a colony. Well, let's see. There's Virginia, the colony of starvation and constant arguing, or maybe Rhode Island, with all of those no-good rogues that the world want to be rid of. Or even better, Georgia, filled with the debtors, thieves, and other jail escapees, a colony basically used as a line of defense against the Spaniards. Still want to move? Don't regret your decision just yet. There is one colony that stands out from the others, one with a promise to make your life easier and give you a happy life in a home away from home. This colony, filled with jobs and opportunity is none other but the grand colony of Maryland!
You Want It, We've Got It
From food to jobs to homes, we've got everything you need to support your family and meet every need that a well brought up Catholic in the 1650"s could want. You'll also note that Maryland surrounds the Chesapeake Bay. This beautiful bay, filled with fish and other seafood also supplies water and a natural harbor, in addition to the diverse food supply. Therefore, all fishers are welcome! Over fishing will never be a problem because there is such a vast amount of fish in this bay. Never fear, the fish will always be here!
In addition to a career in fishing, there are many other job opportunities available here in Maryland. Jobs here include farming, ranching, lumbering, shipping, and iron mining, besides fishing. Speaking of iron mining, Maryland also has a very large supply of iron ore. Many tools are manufactured here and sent back to England, making a large amount of money that benefits the colony and the civilians who occupy it.
Farmers here are very successful as well. Maryland contains low, fertile land, making it easy to grow the cash crop known as tobacco. Tobacco is very popular among colonists and people back in England, so those who grow it often become rich. Plus, as an added bonus, farmers are able to purchase slaves at a low price. Now, you may be asking, why in the world would I want slaves? Slaves are basically colored indentured servants that work for free for the rest of their life instead of release after a few years! They do all of your work for you and YOU get the money! Basically, you profit from doing nothing!
Cheap Land Available For Limited TIme!
Maryland has acres and acres of land at very cheap prices just waiting to be occupied by you and your family. Join the rush of former English residents and come grab land here in the colony of Maryland! But hurry! Time is running out! In a short period of time, acres will go up by 135 cents, so come now and get it while it's cheap!
We Make the Rules Around Here!
Maryland was founded by our wonderful leader, Lord Baltimore. He is a wonderful, fair governor, and many consider him to be the best governor of all the colonies. Although Britain does own the colony of Maryland, it is not governed by Britain. In other words, we are self-governed. Lord Baltimore also created peace agreements with the local natives, making our lives easier (unlike Virginia who fought constantly with them). We are the only colony who accepts Protestants and Catholics, thanks to our wonderful governor, Lord Baltimore. And, if you don't want to be taxed, Maryland is the place for you! Due to a small share of power with the king, Lord Baltimore does not have the ability to tax us, so no one ever gets taxed.
We're the Perfect In-Between
Maryland is one of the more peaceful colonies. We are the only colony to accept both Catholics and Protestants. In our colony, the two groups get along and work well together. We are also able to cooperate with the natives unlike other colonies, such as Virginia. We have good trade relationships with them and have gained a large amount of land because of this. The colony of Maryland is also very fair about who we allow settle in here. We are more kind than Massachusetts in that we don't force everyone to follow the same religion. However, unlike Rhode Island or Georgia, we don't take just "anybody." Jail escapees and non-Christians, are not welcomed. So don't worry about your children associating with the wrong kinds of people; we can assure you that we will create a safe environment with the right kinds of people for you and your family.
A FInal Word
As you can see, this colony is obviously superior to all others. Its natural harbor provides a generous food supply and creates jobs, as does its land. Due to its abundance of natural resources, the colony gains a large amount of profit, which is then spent on YOUR needs. And, finally, we welcome all who are civilized and can relate to YOU. Come to Maryland, the colony all about YOU if you wish to live a happy life in a home away from home.
