In Case You Missed It:
Thank you to EVERYONE for helping out with all the "extras" we had last week (tutorials, two home games, field trips, coverage, talent show and Cultural Arts festival). I was so concerned about leaving and everyone said, "Don't worry, B! We've got this." And in SanLee Style, EVERYONE pitched in and helped wherever they saw a need. I am so proud to work at our school!
I went to San Diego to receive training on the new updates in the AVID strand that I teach at AVID Summer Institutes, Leadership for Implementation Middle/High. I always get energized by going to AVID trainings. It is also affirms and validates we are doing what is best for our kids when we support our mission and vision at SLMS by ensuring ALL our children are prepared for whatever future they choose. We want no doors closed. If we treat and teach all children like they are all going to college, they will be prepared for anything. Thank you for supporting this in your classrooms by ensuring WICOR is in all lessons, reteaching when students don't understand, providing collaborative study groups for kids to work through points of confusion with others in their group, having high expectations for all students, discussing your journey to where you are today, and knocking down barriers that keep students from being successful. It's this "whatever it takes" mentality that makes SanLee great and helps our children to Keep Rising!
Please keep DJ Clemons and family in your prayers. His grandfather passed away during Spring Break.
Piper Estelle Berlauk decided she was ready to join the real world on Friday early morning. The family is doing well. Mary will return to SanLee next school year. We have lined up Mike Riddle, retired music teacher from J. Glenn Edwards, to help us out at least for a few weeks. He will begin on Tuesday. Please make sure to show him support and appreciation when he starts.
Ashley Inman updated me last week that she will not return from her maternity leave until early June. We are grateful to have Gracie Williams holding down the fort and ensuring our children are getting what they need to be successful.
I'm excited to announce that Miyoshi Foushee, 8th grade math teacher, will be joining the UNC Tarheel 6th grade team to teach science when Sherly Bristow moves to AZ.
