Principal's Message
Skyline K-8 Community,
Happy Friday. Thank you for being so patient this week with all of the crazy weather. Because of the uniqueness of the West Hills schools, it has now pushed the district to consider alternative plans depending on the region. Hopefully, the bad weather is over, but just in case I wanted you to know this information.
Thank you to Brandon Schmidt (parent), along with our custodians, Joe and Vicky, along with extra district support for helping shovel snow and making the school a safe place for children and staff.
A huge thank you to Leslie Boyd for organizing a very successful Community Care Day last Saturday. Thank you to everyone who came out and helped! We really appreciate our amazing Skyline K-8 community.
I would like to give a huge shout out to Mrs. Porter for organizing an awesome Read Across America Assembly for all of the students at our school. Thank you to Mrs. Hiser and Mrs. Porter for organizing activities all week long.
Good luck to our middle school OBOB team at their competition tomorrow at Robert Gray Middle School from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Our elementary team will compete on March 9 at Stephenson Elementary from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Have a nice weekend!

Counselor's Corner
I would like to give a big shout out to the Skyline Ridge Neighborhood Association for helping to fund our Move For The Arts event. They are also helping to advertise our event in the Skyline Ridge Newsletter. As an organization, they sponsor two very important community events they are in need of volunteers for. The first event happens on Saturday, April 20th to help clean up our Skyline Roads with an organization called SOLVE. The second event is the Skyline Summer Gathering on July 27th. They would love to see more families and children at this fun annual event. Let’s show our support for the work they do by coming together as a community because the Skyline community ROCKS!
Have a wonderful weekend,

IB Corner
This month we are continuing to focus on the IB Learner Profile of a Communicator. To demonstrate being a Communicator one:
“Understands and express ideas and information confidently and creatively in more than one language and in a variety of modes of communication. They work effectively and willingly in collaboration with others”
Please keep an eye out for all your Communicators in school and at home. Here are some books that you can read. Our next assembly will be on March 15th.
TAG Information
The TAG testing for this year is not complete. The district will send out letters to all families with results as soon as they can. Please feel free to reach out and let me know if you have any questions.
Skyline Families who are interested in applying to Access. The Application is not available. You can find the application on the TAG website on the front page and in the ACCESS link on the TAG page as well. It is also on the ACCESS school website. The process guide can also be found on the both the school’s website and the TAG website under ACCESS. Parents, you must also fill out a SchoolMint application. That link is also on the ACCESS application. If a child has already completed the ACCESS Application and was included in the lottery for the years 17-18 and 18-19, they only have to do a short form, which is on the ACCESS application and they will still need to do the SchoolMint application. They do not need to go through the whole ACCESS application process.
Reminder that students applying for ACCESS must have a 99% in one of the 3 areas of TAG identification; Intellectual, Math and/or Reading AS WELL AS a demonstrated need for an alternative program. These indicators are also in the ACCESS Process Guide found on the ACCESS school site and the TAG Dept website. Please let me know if you have any questions or need any support.

Successful School Survey
Skyline Community,
PLEASE READ
Skyline Staff has been working hard this year within our school Climate Team. We have been streamlining school-wide behavior and expectations, promoting positive incentives with our Golden Eagle Tickets and weekly drawings and celebrating students who demonstrate the IB Learner Profile traits at our monthly school-wide Assemblies. Now we would love to hear from the Community as to what you see and how you feel the climate of our school is. This is the last week to participate in this survey and share your voice with us. Please take a moment to fill out the Successful Schools Survey. Your feedback will only help us improve on policies and procedures within Skyline. There will be a flyer coming home with your students today with login directions, however, you can go to this link and complete the survey from here as well. surveys.panoramaed.com/portlandor/ppsfamily. You will then select Skyline School to complete the survey. You can also use the PPS Family Survey Access Flier-All Languages.
Please let me know if you have any questions. We are hoping for as much participation as possible. The survey will close on March 8th.

Principal Aguirre will discuss the math MAPS assessment, an important test for parents and guardians to understand given that our school is now collecting and using data, beginning in kindergarten, so as to track students and ensure they are meeting or exceeding expectations. Concerned about test scores and grades? PLEASE JOIN US!

It’s an extremely rewarding experience and a lot of fun. The Closet is located at the Marshall High School Campus, 3901 SE 91st Ave., Room C-56.
