Staff Changes for 19-20
Changes in staff is never easy! Particularly on a campus like ours where we work so closely together. I want to take this time to thank a few staff members that are leaving us to pursue the next great thing in their careers or life. Our campus is better because they have been here and you have made a difference for so many students! Thank you to:
Delayne McIlveen: Retiring (We will miss seeing Kevin around)
Heather Scott: Moving to Alvin ISD to be closer to home...10 minutes from home now!
Kimberly Simmons: Moving to San Antonio....happy they are staying here in Texas!
Erica Zatzkin: Headed to Roberts to serve on their leadership team..she'll be just around the corner and sending us cool ideas
We know that when people leave Lovett, we always end up seeing them around as they are always apart of our Lovett family! We will miss you all!
Joining our team in 19-20:
Ashley Harris: Ashley is coming from Pasedena ISD and joining 4th grade in ELA
Barbara McClintock is coming from Pin Oak Middle School and joining 4th grade in Math
Finish Strong!
May is just around the corner and this means this school year is quickly coming to an end. The end of the school year can be stressful, joyful, and we all know a bit crazy. Below is a link to a blog sharing somethings to consider as we get close tot he end of the year. While the blog shares some great tips, I wanted to share a few additional things:
- Make sure you remain structured! Continue your daily classroom management routines. Kids are tired too and they are looking to you for the structure.
- Ramp up on your patience!!! At the end of the year you can get easily frustrated with behaviors that you may have seen over and over. This is not the time to loose your patience. Make sure you are remaining in contact with parents and you are following systems to address any concerning behaviors from students.
- Monitor, monitor and monitor more particularly at recess. This is the time of the year when kids can get frustrated with each other easily. Recess is a largely unstructured time and it requires you to be fully engaged with your students as you are monitoring. This mean...not on your phones and reporting to your assigned recess zones.
- Reassess where students play at recess. Students should not be playing in an area that is unmonitored. The rule of thumb is, if your students can play there, you should have someone assigned close enough to that area to monitor.
- We do not stop teaching objective driven lessons!
- Lastly, have some fun. You've built great relationships with your students and parents. Take advantage of these last days to enjoy the young people that you have helped shaped.
