November 2018

A Message from the Principal

Dear Energy Bus Riders,

Having spent the month of September learning the Energy Bus Principle #1 : "You're the Driver" and the month of October learning Principle #2: "Create a Positive Vision", we are ready to program our GPS system and drive with purpose! During the month of November, we want to challenge our students to discover their unique talents and find ways they can utilize their gifts to determine their purpose.

In principles 1 and 2, it is about being self-reflective while taking 100% responsibility and thinking about where we want our bus to go. But nothing gets accomplished by simple planning and organizing until you take the necessary steps to fulfill your life's purpose.

When you are driving with purpose you must remember to not focus on the small bumps in the road, but rather highlight the miles traveled and the successes along the way - start writing that book, begin an exercise regimen, take those dance classes, read more books! Know that fear is a natural part of driving towards your goals, but do not allow this to hinder your ride!

The Energy Bus Student Pledge for Principle #3: "I Drive with Purpose and I utilize my unique gifts and talents to make a difference in my home, school, and community."

Buckle up and let's enjoy the ride together! Please be sure to read about all of the exciting events scheduled at SCES during the month of November, and even a few events in December!

Sending lots of positive energy your way for an amazing month!

Mrs. Meyer

Read Your Way to the Big Game

The South Carolina Department of Education announced the start of the 2018 Read Your Way to the Big Game Contest! The Read Your Way to the Big Game Contest is an annual reading event open to students in pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade that encourages reading and literacy proficiency.

A child's ability to read is a critical predictor of educational and lifelong success. Help establish a strong literacy foundation for your child and support South Carolina & Clemson's championship traditions by participating in the South Carolina Department of Education's Read Your Way to the Big Game Contest!

All pre-kindergarten through eighth-grade students who read six books will qualify to win tickets to the Clemson vs. South Carolina football game on November 24. Once students have completed their readings, they should turn in the list of books read to their teacher. Winners will receive four tickets and pre-game sideline passes to the Clemson vs. South Carolina game!

Morning Drop-off Procedures

Just a couple friendly reminders regarding morning drop-off procedures of our students:

  • 1. Kindergarten and 1st grade students (and older siblings) drop-off at the back of the school (Kindergarten line); while 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders drop-off at the front of the school. This allows for a more even number of drop-offs at both places.

  • 2. Please pull all the way forward when dropping-off students at the front of the school. This keeps the car line moving and affords for more cars to unload at one time. We have two entrances (200 and 300 wings) in which students can enter to safely get into the building and move to their classrooms.

We certainly appreciate your understanding and cooperation when it comes to following these procedures.

Bus Transportation Regulations & Safety Information

Please visit this link for information on district bus transportation regulations and safety information: https://www.spart2.org/departments/transportation/school_bus_safety_rules_and_regulations

Reminders

*All afternoon transportation changes must be communicated to the front office by 11:00 am. Please reference the Student Handbook for further information.

*Please remember the South Carolina Compulsory Attendance Laws and Regulations in regards to the number of minutes students must attend school each day. Every minute that a student is not in class is counted and reported to the state. If a student misses even 15 minutes of class, this adds up to over an hour of class each week. Please make every minute count for learning!
