School Rules: Be Safe. Be Responsible. Be Respectful.
School Hours: 7:35am-2:50pm
No School - February 17
From the Principal - Come Early!
COME EARLY! There is just no way to get our 800 families through the car line on time if everyone waits until 7:25 to come to school. Please start leaving 5 minutes earlier than usual every day. We can all make a difference and start school for all our students on time! We open the doors at 7:05am.
Picture Days are coming this month! Schedule your child's haircut and find that perfect outfit! Class pictures (all the students together with their teacher standing on the risers) will be February 12 and Spring Individual Pictures (just your child with a cool background) will be February 20.
The final TEA School Report Card has been posted as well as the Federal Report card for the 2018-2019 school year. If you are interested in hearing more information about these reports, please join me at school on February 12th at 5pm.
We have a campus goal for wellness and want to share information about nutrition with all our students and families. Check out the slide show below!
I hope to see you at school sometime soon,
Christi
Reflex Math Practice at Home
At Riojas, students use a variety of tools and resources to practice and retain their addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts. When students are fluent in their facts, they are able to gain confidence in their problem-solving abilities and free up mental resources needed for learning. Practicing number facts at home with your student 2-3 times a week will help our Patriot learners be more successful in the classroom and in their daily life.
Here are a few ways you can help at home:
- Games – Games provide real, relevant, connected, and fun ways to use math facts repeatedly
- War: This game is played with a deck of cards (minus the face cards). Each person turns one card over, and the first person to announce the sum takes both cards.
- Go Fish with Facts: Instead of looking for the same number as in the original “Go Fish” card game, players try to pair cards with equal sums.
- Domino Top It: Have players place dominoes face-down between them. Each player turns over a domino and calls out the sum of the dots on the two halves.
- Traditional/Triangle (Fact Family) Flash Card
- Students 1st - 5th Grades can log on to http://reflexmath.com using their teacher provided login and password.

Congratulations Kara!
Attendance Update
This month, February, is traditionally our lowest month for attendance, but not this year! We are going to add some extra fun to the calendar and see if we can boost that rate! Each grade level will compete to see who can have the best attendance and who can make the most improvement each week of February. At stake will be extra recess, popcorn and popsicles!
As of Thursday, Feb. 6th, we had an average of 98.72% of our students in attendance this week! That is an OUTSTANDING start! Let's keep it up and I will keep you posted on our success next week!
Attendance at school is critical to student success. Please make every effort to have your child here at school and on time each and every day! See the document below for more information about attendance and student success.

Health Notice for 5th Grade Families
Dear 5th Grade Parents,
We have a student on campus with a weakened immune system. To reduce the spread of illnesses, we are asking that you inform the nurse if your 5th grade child is absent due to an illness. I understand this is a high flu season and the worst we have seen in 10 years, but we are doing our best to protect our Riojas School and families. Please remember that our policy requires students to be free of acute illness symptoms for 24 hours before returning to school. Symptoms include having a temperature greater than 99.9 degrees F (prior to taking fever reducing medications), vomiting, diarrhea, and contagious skin illnesses. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school nurse. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Brittany A. Jones, RN

Changes In Going Home
If you are changing the way your child goes home, you must communicate that to the front office staff by stopping by the office or calling the office. Please do not send an email. Our teachers are busy teaching and helping students and often do not check their email throughout the day. The office communicates changes to our staff close to the end of the school day, but all changes must be reported to the office before 1pm. This helps us ensure a safe dismissal for all students. If your change affects a daycare provider, please inform the daycare, as well.
